One of these days I think we just need to take off like Drew, except drive a smaller vehicle and stay in hotels.
Geez, I just heard an echo. Exactly what my older brother told me...
At 100-200 per night in nice places, I'm not sure I want to do the math.
As for vehicles, the fifth wheel is cheap enough to have as a second home, and could even be used as a guest house when company comes. And surely if the power goes out, although I am a standby gen devotee at this point. When I was on that beach campground on Emerald Isle in NC, boy I could sure see being parked there for awhile. Time to use that metal detector I bought for a trip a few years back.
And then on the West Coast of Florida, where there are surprisingly few rv parks. And in the mountains in the summer to avoid the heat. Did a lot of thinking while on this trip as to what would get used the most, to get more value for the money spent.
I did note that Winnebago touts hydraulic slides on the two main slides out of three in its new fifth wheel trailer, vs. my current rv's electric motors in geared tracks. Almost as if they are better. I just don't know.
Winnebago makes a nice unit, the dealer had one which sold promptly and I'm sure has more on order. For sure, no matter what computerized leveling system they put on it, the show will go on this time, because I will have a full set of manual trailer jacks along as backup. And the pickup truck should be stone reliable.
