Good morning!!!!

you guys are just plain mean, making me stay inside again. :D

nice breakfast at the little grill around the corner, tried to eat just some scrambled eggs and toast and a sausage.
The sausage was one link about eight inches long. The scrambled eggs were slick with grill grease. And the toast was almost synthetic. Pushed that around a bit...Came back and had a yogurt. But I did find out that one of the tablemates of guys who meet every morning there is a landscaper that does gravel driveways. He followed me back and said no problem plus his sense of scope and mine were in tune. All these guys are using different terms for gravel, different acronyms I guess, than I was used to. Perhaps it's just old but used to be you bought clean or dirty gravel. Now there are more choices apparently. I liked this guy; he wants to put new base material down and then spread the fine gravel in the middle of the road, about a foot off each side. It will migrate over time but trying to reduce gravel movement into the lawn, which over time it surely will.

so now I have a second and third driveway bid coming in and that should surely do it.
My requirements were smooth and no dust. He said yes sir.

65, cloudy and only getting up to 73. Definitely autumn-like.

Got some rain last night, but nothing like down near the coast - Smithfield got over 12 inches yesterday. Some of those areas are only a few feet above sea level, so I'm sure flooding was a problem.

Drew, that driveway maintenance sounds like a new implement is needed. :)

Not much change in weather here yet, lot of rain yesterday, Rainy Day in Georgia for sure. Kept me from doing my limb clean up job from last storm. Still in 90° area this week.

Y'all boys have a good, safe day.

Good Morning. 0915, overcast, 73F with 96% humidity. Forecast high of {a cool} 86F with 60% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon, and a low of 71F tonight. I'll be heading out to Marianna here in a little while to do the week's shopping. I have to put on blinders every week when I go in TSC to get pet food, of some impulse buys might be happening:D

Drew, you will have to find a non-greasy eggs and sausage place. Or maybe try an omelette? I used to get breakfast from the Piggly Wiggly deli and you had to use half a roll of paper towel to soak up all the grease. It is easier to squeeze the grease out of sausage patties.

Hope everyone has a good day,

Larro

PS: I did make it down to the pond yesterday. It is holding it's own, or maybe even getting a hair bigger. Sorry about the big picture to you guys using phones, but the pictures are on my laptop at work, so I had to take this one from Face Book.

Drew, it is not the we we want to be Nurse Ratchet (sp?), it's that we do care. Watch the grease intake it's a "killer".

Got the barn cleaned out yesterday and the cement man came by to take a look see.
We have decided to insulate and add radiant heat in the floor.
Personally I had planned to do this (radiant) as well ... but at the rate things are going I dunno if I'll ever make it happen ...

The biggest cost will be the insulation ...
Check these guys out - they're up in your neck of the woods ... more or less.

Welcome to Insulation Depot - Rigid Foam Insulation, Used Insulation, Roofing Supplies, Roofing Material

They offer used/reclaimed foamboard insulation ... might be able to save a few bucks.

and I am not too sure if I will ever hook it up but it will be there if I want to ...
Yup ... kinda hard to add the tubing or the insulation after the pour ... and you'll use insulation no matter whether you hook up the tubing or not.

Having the insulation in the floor will certainly help in the winter time.
Significantly I would think ... go thicker around the edges ... even at the cost of leaving the middle uninsulated.

Let us know how the ground rod drive goes! I have to do the same here pretty soon as I am putting in a 100 amp service in the new workshop / barn.

Wayne
Wayne,

Well ... we had a catastrophic tool failure ... lol ...

The bottom pipe "cup" piece came unglued (ie. broke off) ... guess I didn't have the juice turned up high enough when I welded it.

Fortunately it didn't occur until only the last 6 inches or so was left to be driven ... and the saving grace might have been that before I welded the bit/driving plate assembly onto the "cup" (pipe) I took a grinding point (round) in a die grinder and ground a concave indentation (cup) into the driving plate to help keep the rod centered:

IMG_1530.jpg

At any rate, the driving of the rod took about 2 to 4 minutes tops ... hit a couple of rocks on the way in which slowed it down for a bit ... but the end on the ground rod itself had been ground to a taper, with about 1/8" to 1/4" tip left unground.

I did cheat a little ... I drove it near the service entrance ... where I had already dug out the dirt to a depth of 18" to repair the water line.:

The hammer drill I used was this one from Harbor Freight ... on sale right now for a buck, twenty-four (regular price $269):

8.5 Amp 2-in-1 1-9/16 in. Variable Speed SDS Max Type Rotary Hammer

If I needed one to use daily making a living this probably wouldn't be the one I'd buy ... but it seems to be fairly decent quality for the occasional use/homeowner type deal.
