With that NW wind and 9 degrees it is down right cold out there.

It is MAJOR cold here in Toronto, and in fact a street person was found dead in a bus shelter in downtown Toronto a couple of ights ago, a victim of the cold. Street people really suffer at these times.

Good Morning! A cloudy 45˚ as the wind has shifted from the North again. It will only get colder today and a low of 24˚ tonight. The coldest night of the season -so far.
It was a warm 63˚ sunny day yesterday and I let the WBS fire die. I'll give it a good cleaning and light 'er up today. Inside Temp is 68, I'm trying to see how long I can go without turning on the central heat.

I looked in Zillow to see how many houses were for sale in our zip code (about 80 square miles) compared to Sun City. There was only one.
Then I looked in our County (629 square miles) there were only 30 houses for sale. I guess they all moved to Texas.

So ... after the kid puts the gas valve in yesterday and gets nowhere he calls Dad (found out yesterday it's a father/son/wife outfit)

Comes back in and says Dad - who was currently busy doing something with some galvanized pipe - will be out in the morning ... and he'll have some test equipment (pressure or vacuum gauge ?) that the kid doesn't have.

Ok, fair enough.

So about a half an hour ago my cell rings and it's Dad ... and he ain't comin' ... ever, apparently ... on the night/day of lowest predicted temps so far this season (-3F for low tonight)

Says he talked to the local Rheem guy and based on what's going on, the local Rheem rep is stumped too. Nothing more to do ...

Can't tell me what's wrong ... other than a bunch of ... maybe this ... maybe that ...

Needless to say the conversation didn't go real well ...

After I got off the phone with him I got to thinking: ... what about my original gas valve ?

I believe I mentioned on this forum that when the kid installed the first replacement valve (which quit working within 24 hours), I didn't realize that he had taken my old valve ... and that I called (less than 24 hours later) the older guy (who as it turns out is Dad) and reported that the furnace was still not working ... and that his son had taken the original gas valve without my permission and that I wanted it back.

Dad sez "No problem ... it's still on his truck ... we'll get it back to ya ..."

They never did ... despite my asking about it again after that.

So I called Dad back this morning after our first call, and asked "Where's my original gas valve ?"

He apparently thought I was asking about one of the replacement valves and replied "We have to send those back to Honeywell for warranty"

Ahhh ... no Pops ... my original valve ...

"Oh ... that's long gone ... it's been scraped ..."

To which I replied "So you f'ed up that too ?"

This is the first time I have ever used that type of language with/at these guys ... despite several months of their failing to demonstrate their competence by fixing - or even just properly diagnosing - my furnace.

Needless to say, Dad was not pleased.

But his reply/explanation was rather telling:

"Do you realize how busy we are ?"

Umm yeah ... actually I do:

"Too busy to keep your word once given ... and clearly too busy to take proper care of your customers ..."

It sounds like they are busy because they never get anything fixed.

Even here in Deep South, a good day to be inside. Oh me, I canno' wait for spring to come! Reckon it's warm here, 36° or so, yo y'all boys up north, but cold to me old bones.

Good Morning. 0945, sunny, 47F with 93% humidity. Forecast high of 55F with 0% chance of rain this afternoon, and a low of 21F tonight. At about 0815 {when the phone woke me} the sun melted the frost on the roof and the water was playing a rat-a tat-rat in the downspout. Glad I got my outside stuff down yesterday. It will be cold and windy today and tomorrow. I've got a pot of chili on my mind.

You guys to the north stay safe and warm,

Larro
