And now it's raining. Nothing on the radar, but it's pouring. Even my plan to have no plan now disrupted. Harumph.

sseelhoff, wake up there is nothing on radar you are still sleeping.

Good morning! 77˚ heading to the mid 90s.

I did not realize that my wife's second cousin by marriage led a very interesting childhood and young adult life. She wrote a book right before she died last year. The first advanced school she went to was a **** nursing school, lived through the falling of Germany, ended up marring an American soldier (wife's second cousin) had a child in Germany and had problems immigrating to Texas with her daughter and husband because of her brief affiliation with the **** party. We found the book in the heritage museum in the library in La Grange. My wife was surprised to see a picture of her great grandparents in the book. It is very sobering reading about the war through the eyes of a young girl in a fallen nation.

Several years ago, in my wife's attempt to learn German, this second cousin gave my wife a stack of audio tapes that she had read from a "learn german" book saying the language in the correct pronunciation.

The fields look relatively empty this morning, with only 150 ewes left and not a single lamb.

Three bundles of 5'6" x 4" posts have arrived as replacements for those on the top boundary fence, which are starting to rot and break off. I have arranged for a tractor mounted post knocker to come and drive them in, so today I need to set them out. I started yesterday evening, but now the nights are closing in, by 8 o'clock it was too dark to continue.

Kyle, you sound to have one of those faults that is both frustrating and intriguing - in a way, better than any crossword puzzle. I'm sure quite a few on TBN would enjoy taking it apart with you. With a bit of luck, it will be obvious what is wrong when you get inside to have a look.

I would have mixed feelings too after sending off a part of a flock.

Eric, the frustrating thing is that the repair manual shows all these orings and parts to replace while rebuilding the rockshaft, but they don't list the part numbers, nor does deere offer a "kit" that includes all the orings and seals. Which means if you miss something, you have to wait days to get it in and more trips to the dealer. At least deere has a great online parts lookup.

Next problem. While mowing with the 6' bush hog 286, I notice it really taking a lot of hp and using the pto clutch on the bush hog too much. I stop and drive back to the barn, blow it off and tighten the clutch springs. While tightening, I notice slop in the gearbox shaft....what's next...

I have decided after having so much vehicle and equipment troubles lately, that anything older than 12 years is a ticking time bomb. Sometimes I find myself thinking about a regular house and just worrying about a lawnmower and weedeater. And then I open up the shade on our big front window over the kitchen sink and look out over the fields and pond and think "what was I thinking"?

List of trouble in chronological order:
2003 Impala, camshaft lobe (been waiting on GM to stock camshafts for a long time)
2003 Chevy Venture van, body control module and other stuff (repaired and about to be sold)
1996 F250, body control module and other stuff (repaired and sold)
2002 HPX Gator, ignition module box (still waiting to find $310 under a rock somewhere to fix it)
Bushhog post hole digger, complete new PTO shaft and couplings
Deere 4310, rockshaft control, TBD.
Bushhog mower, gearbox and both skids underneath the side rails (hopefully I can just replace some tapered roller bearings)

Has anyone had a bushhog gearbox apart? I see the exploded views, but can't find any tolerance numbers for how many shims...

70 this morning and headed to 98 today. It's going to be another hot one. When y'all find that rain send some this way. While we aren't anywhere near as dry as the western states the pasture grass is dry enough it's not recovering.

Plans for today are to mow. Bouncing around on a dusty lawn mower for about 5 hours should be nice on my allergies. Then rebait all the mouse bait stations.

Kyle I know how you feel when it seems like you spend more time working on things than using them.

Eric. After every flock leaves I walk outside and don't hear any fans running. I get kind of an eery feeling. Then I have to remind myself that they are gone.

I'm wide awake. Was putting on the riding shorts and jersey when the sky opened up. Just stopped. Need to check the guage. At least I dont' have to water the garden today.

74F and sunny currently, headed up to a high of 88F ... we're in for a bit of a heat wave, with highs in the upper 80's thru Tuesday.

We finally got some rain ... 1.54 inches in the last 48 hours.

The only problem was that it came in the form of a couple of short thunderstorms.

I was sitting at the computer when the first one hit Thursday afternoon - lasted about 45 minutes and dumped about an inch of rain. Also fried the modem ... very close lighting strike and I actually heard the modem make a pop. It wouldn't establish a connection after that. Luckily I had a spare, so I swapped it out and immediately had the internet back.

Yesterday I met with our accountant and got our 2014 returns prepared ... which means they will be filed within the extension window. Very happy about that.

Dunno what will be on the menu today ... whatever it is, it will probably involve sweating.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable holiday weekend.

Yep, modems are the first to go. Sometimes garage door openers too.

We need rain here desperately. Glad to hear Sseelhoff got some.
