Poured first cup of coffee. 45° with some clouds this morning. Heading to 58° with lots of sun (Fort Stockton, TX.). Back on the road this morning. Little less than 400 miles. Been a good visit with txdon and his wife. Thanks for your hospitality.
Good Morning All.

27 going to 57...lots of frost, looks like snow...crunched when I went to play frisbee with Coco this morning.

Eric, cool dog pix.

Ron, have a safe trip.

I've had good luck on Home Depot purchases...can't remember anything missing from the box in years. I do look over the box closely before purchase.

Well, my team lost the ACC football championship game last night...I guess I shouldn't have fallen asleep before it ended.

40 degrees going up to mid fifties today, rain coming in tomorrow.

Just nibbled on a bit of some amazing smoked pork I brought home from a party last night. Like eating meat candy. The intense smells of the wood it was smoked in, and the fairly dry but still good consistency, oh my that is good. The party giver made a bit too much and boy was I ready to accept a doggy bag for home. funny, when I ate my first bite I thought of Don and other Texans eating that mesquite smoked meat. It makes standard barbecue dressing goopy glop, but then this had to cook/smoke for almost 24 hours at 225 apparently. No wonder us Northerners want to move South...;)
Buppies it was nice and dry and lean and you could have some too...I'll go wave some around out the front door and see if the breeze takes the aroma North West for you and Wingsprd. Actually I think there are a couple of guys further West of me in the Research Triangle, the heart of NC business, but I don't know them.

I think we are all a little curious as to the membership here.
It really would be fun if we could pushpin ourselves on an electronic map but I also know we all want some element of privacy too.
I'm curious, have you seen anyone post from Utah? Alaska? Rhode Island? Maybe they are the "non designated" ones, fine. You know, the I'm located "somewhere out there" or one of my favorites goes something like "left past the red barn and back behind the old stump"
Thankfully we have Eric to keep our "English" proper, but it is great fun too to hear from the Australians. I wonder if like their road trains they have tractor trains...

And who can forget our new friend from China, the poor guy who popped up here a couple years back trying to do market research, working for a company that likely just copied implement designs of others and built them. he got such an earful of polite wrath over patent issues, and historic low quality. We were actually worried he would get arrested from posting here, though the pics of his family were great.

I wonder if tractor drivers in Germany will find out their companies cheated on their diesel specs.

I just stepped outside for more firewood, and pretty sure I smelled the aroma of smoked pork. Isn't that weird?

I know there is at least one TBNer from Utah...he ran a thread of building a barn that was well done, and set near some beautiful mountains.

Sounds good to me love pork never had it smoked though. Sun is really bright this morning believe will blow some leaves shortly to finish that long drug out project. The gator is broken parking brake second time first under warranty I doubt this one will be but it is a bad design.

Would be nice to know who is close to us on the TBN, know of a couple a county or two over or at least that's what it shows. Met one whose brother I worked with for a number of years as well good group of people on the TBN

Still waiting on boat info for two 33Silvertons and have offer on 250 Whaler see where it goes

Wngsprd with all that walking you do I'll bet coco is in fantastic shape

Wife is sick son is sick his girlfriend is sick hopefully can miss out on the fun

The weather gerus say by Christmas we are going to be extremely warm unusually so and even now we have some bulbs trying to come up

Drew:

Love the push-pin map idea. Like you, I would like to know if anyone is in my immediate area. I know TXDon and Kyle aren't too far from me (about an hour) and there is another poster from Weimar, which is about 75 minutes east. I stop in Weimar for gas and such frequently on my trips to Houston.

Good morning! Only 26 deg F this morning here in northern CT. Roy is warmer north of us in VT.

Advanced Search in the members area shows 64 TBN members in Rhode Island. Not sure how many of those are active.

Gotta go pick up chicken feed today, then haul a load of firewood to son's house. Need to remember to do CT firewood transport form due to Emerald Ash Borer concerns. It's wife's birthday, so we'll "dine" at Wayback Burgers. It's her request.

Have a great day all!

Our ranch is 12 miles SE of Weimar and 12 miles SW of Columbus. Who's in Weimar? May have TBN'r close?

I was referring to you in Weimar, since that's what your location said.

I think that timing chain is bigger than the one on my dirt bike!

Yeah, I was worried about the slop in the timing chain but the spec is if it can move back an forth an 1". It has about 5/8" travel. This seems like a lot to me. No wonder these old engines aren't real powerful. The modern version of this engine has a spring loaded tensioner.

RS, I have an extra set of gaskets I ordered. You can have them if you think cupcake will blow 1. At any rate, you're in deep, hook, line and sinker!!! :) On a side note, my mother kept a small 5 or 10 gallon aquarium for years and she'd sometimes just sit there and watch the fish. It was so calming to her considering the poverty we faced.

Some more history on the engine. It has about 292,000 on it. I put the obligatory lower intake manifold gaskets (LIM) in it back around 130,000, then it started pulling rocker arm studs out of their threads in the aluminum heads. First time, I just fixed the one, but the 2nd time (around 250K miles) I pulled the heads and put thread serts in all the valve rockers. So I got that part of the system fixed and the next weakest link apparently was a cam lobe (at 292K). I got a new cam and lifters to intall. I didn't take it down further than the short block because: It doesn't burn any oil, has a great compression check across the board, had a great leak down check as well, there are still hone marks in the cylinder top ends, and it did not make any crankshaft rod noises whatsoever. I put in many new parts back at the 250K rebuild. Timing chain set, oil pump, water pump.

I can only guess that somehow the hydraulic lifters were pumping up and causing the undue strain on the valve train. Anyone ever had this problem? These motors depend on splash from the crank's rod journals for lubing the camshaft.

I love driving the car as my commuter. It gets about 26-27mpg overall in my drive. I've put better tires and wheels off of a late model impala LTZ on it. It just handles bad weather driving really good. So much better than my mini van.

Wife brought me coffee with some non alcoholic Irish creme added. I prefer the real Baileys. :)

43 degrees here in south Texas, same as Vancouver BC.
