Internet was moving right along this morning, 70 up, 8 down. Boy I bet some of you out in the country would like those speeds. It would be like "shazaam!"

Indeed it would, Drew. But I learned long ago that the pipes upstream at the servers are the ones with the biggest clogs, and often times it's the sites doling out the data that can't keep up with demand for it. I'd much rather have a reliable connection with unlimited data caps than one so fast that no data source can take full advantage of it. So far I've tried Hughes, Wild Blue, and now Excede, and ignoring a moment the latency problems inherent in any satellite connection, all were faster than most of the sites to which I was attempting to connect. But unless you want to stay up into the wee hours to download the latest map update for your GPS or watch the latest episode of "Orange Is The New Black", you'll find yourself chewing through your monthly data allowance in the first week or so. You can purchase a plan with a higher data cap, but compared to the cost of "lowly" DSL, it gets out of hand rather quickly.

Good luck with your surgery. Enjoy the first hour or so after awakening from the anesthesia when nothing will hurt.

Good Morning! A balmy 46F @ 5:30 AM. Cloudy skies. Slight chance of a rain shower. High 54F. Winds light and variable.

Lake Oroville is up all of 20 feet since it started raining again last month. If it keeps up at this rate it'll rise another 80 feet before it stops raining in mid May, and that's still 145 feet below the top of the Oroville dam. But as the water rises the canyon gets wider and it takes progressively more rain to raise the level each additional foot. Unless we get significantly wetter storms over the coming months, this winter isn't even going to make a dent in Northern California's drought. It would appear that The Blob is winning in the competition with El Nino to determine California's weather.

CDEC - Data Application

In fact, the level is coming up slower than in either of the two previous years, which were among the driest on record.

Hope everyone's week gets off to a great start!

I updated my new iPad from the backup of old iPad via iCloud and it used my entire 10 gB of "anytime" data on first day of my service month. I have no idea why I didn't have the brains to do it during the overnight data time. Duh!

...I have heard some say the best time to clean out a woodstove is while it is still hot, then the heat pulls any disturbed fine ash away up the chimney flue, instead of it spreading out into the room. When I can find a metal bucket I will give this a try.

Eric,

My stove is in the basement, one big 1428 square foot room, and my fear would be it will fill up with smoke while shoveling it out... I do have a nice metal bucket with a lid for the ash.

Good news is yesterday it was 60 degrees so with plenty of stirring the ashes just burned out quietly, and I shoveled them out.

I relit the fire last night after the Green Bay game... it was 25 degrees overnight... House is toasty warm.

Good Playoff football Sunday, cut a bunch of wood for a friend and myself Saturday, hung out at the Moose Friday night with my wife it was a great weekend all in all.

Gotta get 2016 rolling now...

Be well all!

David

29° going to 40°.
Had cancer removed from my arm Monday, stitches are itching, don't come out until next Monday. I'm going to call and see if they can get them out this week. Plus I'm waiting on the pathology report.

Eric you must really have some good disco moves to snatch up Julie that quick. Good thing I did not have to depend on my moves. Whenever I discoed in the 70'S I was just an embarrassment to my future wife. Our song was a slow dance - "Colour my World" by Chicago.

Ha ha, whatever she saw in me, it certainly wasn't the dance moves. In those days though the flares on my trousers were so wide, I doubt anyone could see my feet moving.

Good luck with the report. If you have to leave the stiches in, ask if they can recommend a lotion to stop it itching.
