Good Morning! 66F @ 8:30AM. Sunny. High 86F. Winds NW at 10 to 15 mph.
Knock it off, RS, yer makin' the rest of us look bad (again)
Started yesterday by getting the donor van out of the garage and safely parked outside, in preparation for removing the pop top roof.
Used the RTV, a couple ratchet straps, and an old piece of carpet, and neither vehicle received any damage.
Then I popped the top for the first time (not enough room in the garage) and discovered that the cloth on the sides had rotted away from being stored improperly. No surprise, and cutting it off the rest of the way made removal easier. To finish brushing up on my Redneckin', I got out the tractor forks and levitated the top off, after removing about a million screws first. It now rests comfortably on a pair of saw horses, awaiting my tender ministrations with 180 grit and a dual action sander.

By 4 PM it was finally warm enough to paint, so I washed off the recently striped motorcycle parts and applied several coats of clear. Got a little over zealous on the tank and created several large runs, but since all the parts will need several layers to bury the stripes, it just means a little more work with the wet'n'dry sandpaper before the next session. Really pleased how the striping cleaned up the edges on the gold, and the traditional look of the red/gold/black coloring.
Enjoyed a beer or two on the patio while the stuff set up enough to take it back into the garage to finish drying, marveling at all the different birds that make this place home. Hummers, barn swallows, finches, and big turkey vultures were all sharing the sky, making it a very busy and entertaining place. Forgot to mention it, but yesterday one of the buzzards was circling off the side of the driveway, actually flying below the level of the drive as the land drops off very steeply there (that's where I was worried about losing the van :laughing
. Anyway, after several 40' circles, it lands and starts looking at something on the freshly mown hillside. And before I knew it, it was up on the driveway, maybe 20' away, looking me over and trying to figure out what to do next. Tried to sneak back into the garage and get my camera, but it was gone before I could get it. Never a dull moment around here...
