71F and cloudy after a big line of severe thunderstorms blew through earlier.

I was on my way back from the outdoor power equipment shop when it hit ... lots of downed limbs on the way back ... barely could make by a couple that had 1+ lanes of traffic blocked.

Nice cool down tho' ...

Picked up the o-rings for the hydraulic cylinder on the splitter, and got all the parts for the splitter engine, as well as the Walbro gauge for setting the needle lever on the brush cutter carb.

After I got back I proceeded to tear into the splitter engine ... and I think I may have discovered the actual source of the oil leak ... don't think it's what I thought it was. There's a plate that goes on top of the head that's underneath the valve cover ... two bolts hold it on. There's a gasket between it and the head. I tightened the two bolts up and will try the old valve cover with a new gasket and see if that handles the oil leak.

Have to weld a couple of tabs on the heat shield for the muffler next, and then replace the o-rings and put the cylinder back together.

O-rings were cheap ... 50 cents apiece.

rotor replacement not going well. cant get the old one off, don't have a puller...

I've hammered on them a bit, but you sure don't want to crack it! Penetrating oil can help. And some never seize when you put it back on.

Are we talking brake rotors here? If so, try heat. If you can still drive the car (motorcycle???) take it out and do a few hard stops to get it smokin' hot. Then shoot it with some good penetrating oil like Kroil or acetone/ATF 50/50. Not just around the studs, but between the rotor and hub, too. Let it cool and repeat. Maybe do it a few times over the next week. Or you can do what I did last time and get an eight pound sledge and go to town on it until it gives up. Seems brutal, but they're old rotors so who cares if they get a few dents?

Hope this helps, and good luck!

I have a puller on order from amazon. Puller I have was a little too small to pull a rotor. I've beat a few of them off over the years. This is one of the tougher ones I've encountered. Course 280K miles on original rotors. Discussing it over on another rotor thread also.

PortaPower and you'll do the least amount of sweating.

Don, hope your dad is doing ok. I'm concerned about mine. He's planning on baling hay today in this weather, and too far for me to get there to help. Last year about this time of year, he made some by himself on a hot day and got heat exhaustion and spent about a week in the hospital. At 91 he doesn't need that. One of his neighbors is going to round bale most of his hay for him, but he wants to put this up now in square. One neighbor is supposed to come help today.

I think it's the challenge of doing it at that age.
My Dad is the same way. He decided to mow his large yard today with his craftsman riding mower. I watched him for the first lap and then left after he didn't run over anything. Mom called tonight he finished it. He did take a lot of water breaks and an afternoon siesta.

My 87 year old mamma spends every day in her flowerbeds and garden. She does work early and late, but Florida summers are not getting any cooler. I worry, but only up to a point. Folks don't get that age without a little common sense. And when her time does come, I'm sure she would rather be hoeing peas than laid up in bed.

My dad is 82, and he takes on pretty much anything. But I've noticed that it takes him far longer to do things. He usually takes a nap after lunch. But then I know I can't hustle like I used too, either. The nap thing is coming....:)

65 right now...high of 82 today.

Up early and going in to work in a couple hours. We have a supplier problem and I'm putting a lot of data together to find out if the product (jet engine turbine blades) is going to be acceptable. Hopefully, won't be there for more than 2-3 hours.
It's pretty wet out...should be dry enough to mow when I get home (and after a nap)
