Poured first cup of coffee. 46° with rain and wind this morning. Heading to 58° (Ogden, UT.) with sunny skies and a breeze. Today is a travel day. Going to spend a few day visiting my older brother. Been a few year since we have gotten together.
Good Morning All.

The brown pitted surface seen through the slot is some rusty old steel in the background. The black between the welds is another short piece of stainless 2" x 1/2", butt jointed to the bigger pieces. I hadn't wire brushed it clean when I took the picture, only pushed the slag off.

I'm practicing with butt joints first as I'm told they are the easiest joint. Also, with them I can make slots, which saves me drilling holes, as I haven't yet got a pillar drill and drilling steel with a little cordless is not much fun.

The beads looked good if you are getting enough penetration. I practice using "Gorilla welds", big, strong, and ugly...

I haven't been able to put my finger on the exact cause of the lure of welding, but many a person has invested in welding equipment that they don't use all too often. But when you need it, a welder can be priceless. I liken welding to re-painting an old car. A lot of prep usually for just a few minutes of fun. Unless you have a project like RS or something. I have a fantastic setup at work but I only use it sparingly for my own projects.

So, you mow around the trees with the tractor? Or do you use something else to trim with? I use a string trimmer about 3 times a summer, I use to have to use it every week with a regular tractor style mower, but what you need or what you like is a very individual thing.

I use my Zero Turn John Deere to mow around and under trees.

Good morning all. 34 here this am going to 67, so it should be a nice day. Took the Subaru in to get it serviced yesterday and to complain that it is burning oil. Less than 50,000 mi and burns a quart or two per oil change. I was told that if it burnt more than one quart in 1200 mi they would fix it but that there is nothing that they can do. The service rep told me that it is normal for the v6 Subaru Legacy to burn that much oil, his burns even more. I guess I will trade it after we get the house, don't want to do anything now before closing. Ed

Ed, those subaru are supposed to be some of the best. Have you tried taking it out somewhere where you can open it up and run it really hard, with many full throttle passes? Sometimes the rings never get seated really well in an engine that is babied. I'm not saying to over rev it, just start at low speed and gun it multiple times to blow the soot out, letting it rev to redline. While my v6 in my impala has had it's share of issues, the one thing I can say is it does not burn oil. Even at 301,800 miles. It is due an oil change and the oil is at the same level as when I put it in there about 7500 miles ago. (Mobil 1 extended life).

35 going to 69. Another frosty morn.

Had a great hike in the Shenandoah yesterday...7.4 miles roundtrip and 1,700 feet elevation gain...packed my waders and fishing gear...lots of weight, and was able to fish from the rocks without wearing my waders so all that weight for nothing but the exercise, I guess. Beautiful day and lots of wildflowers. Met some interesting people and dogs on the trail, saw 3 bears and 4 deer. Am sore today. Here's a pic of one of the pools I was flyfishing in...caught a couple of brookies there.
Beautiful pic. Thanks for sharing. Count your blessings.

Need to see my guests off, go show my older lady friend how to mow her lawn with her new mower, than back to get cleaned up, put a suit on the first time in a long time and go out to an evening wedding tonight.

Drew, I should have built a front bumper for my FIL's snapper. He keeps killing the front steering linkages. Wondering if they offer a front bumper for the cub cadet?

Good Morning All.

Ron, thanks for posting all the nice pics. Tell your wifey Howdy!

Today the list of to do's is big (but I won't be able to hit them all). My FIL has decided to open up the wallet and get the 2002Gator HPX going again. It needs an ignition module $305 and it needs all new tires. The old tires have dry rotted. He has sourced tires through Discount tire, I'm sure they will be a bear to replace. I use the FEL's front edge to break the beads on tires from the rims. It is dull enough and with the weight will usually break the bead. Sometimes you have to rotate the tire to hit the bead from all sides and a helper is good for that.

And he wants a new seat for his 5420 tractor. We are putting an aftermarket replacement seat on it for the same price as just the replacement JD cushions cost. I hope the aftermarket seat has a decent suspension.

Good Morning! 59F @ 5:30AM. Abundant sunshine. High 84F. Winds NW at 10 to 15 mph.

Nice to see all the spring wildflower pics. Sure beats heck out of last winters snow pics.

RS, is there a primer on hydraulics somewhere here on TBN? I'm really struggling with the terminology. Hard to picture what's going on when I have no idea what "port beyond", "third function", or "spool" mean.

Drew, better stick with a velvet Elvis. A nude may offend a bible belter wandering by in a campground. :ashamed:

Got a return phone call from Steve on the too short drive shaft problem, and a longer one is on the way. The box will have a prepaid label in it for returning the short one. I'll have to figure out how to spring the release button on it first: It's way up under the safety guard and jammed. Steve said his staff is supposed to check for that before the 'shaft ships, but they missed this one.

Put the old Bushog on and mowed space so folks'll have a spot to put their tents. I was surprised that the grass was already over a foot high in places. Also got my first spring sneezes from all the pollen that was stirred up.

Four guests ensconced and one brake flush already under our belts, the AirTech Weekend is officially underway. Good conversation around the table last night; some pretty tall tales being told.:laughing: Some pretty loud snoring coming from the guest quarters as well. :)

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

Ed, my 2014 Subaru Forester also burns oil. I was surprised when the oil light went on. The dealership did an oil test and they said it was normal. It seems to burn more oil in the summer going 75mph than in the winter. Mine uses a quart per synthetic oil change every 7,500 miles. They say this is normal. Looking at the Subaru forums it does burn less than some and more than some. I also am not used to adding oil between oil changes coming from a Toyota but the Toyota's oil was changed every 6K miles. I'll probably get a Toyota next time.

57 this morning and headed to 77 today.

Take care of birds and then head to an auction. Then back to finish mowing.

Eric. That hitch is really strong. My wife's family uses them. They have 2 hay wagons hooked together. Each holds 11 5x6 bales. Then the hitch allows them to carry 2 on tractor. 24 bales one trip, one person, one tractor. But they pull it with 100hp New Hollands too. I'll be looking to move 11-14 4x5 bales. Depending on what size trailer I get.

Kyle, won't Discount Tire change your tires for you?
