Grasshopper 1822

Anybody had any experience with Grasshopper's 1822 model? I have been looking for a cheaper 0 radius for my teenage son to do some yards with this summer and a local guy has a 1822 in average condition and unknown hours and exact year. Looking on the net it appears to be a pretty old mower but the guy seems pretty straight and assures me it is a good runner.

I used to mow with a newer Grasshopper before getting my tractor and it was an awesome machine but I don't know if I'm comparing apples to oranges given the age and model difference to what I used. Any input on this or similar model would be great.

I think my neighbor has this model, mid-80's front mount with an 18HP horizontally opposed L-head B&S motor. Older, but nice if it's the same unit as the one you are looking at. I've mowed with it myself. Given the age and hours of his, he's replaced some pricey parts, wheel motors, pumps, etc, probably normal repair stuff. Grasshoppers are high quality machines, I think considered a bit pricey by forum members. If the motor and HST parts are in good working order, might be worth a closer look.
