Does anyone know exhaust temperatures parameters? At what temp is too hot? I have a gravely 812, been running it for a few months now. It runs ok, starts fine but it does miss every so often. I figure it could use a carb rebuild but haven't ordered it yet. Other then that I haven't noticed anything till today. I wanted to try something, I had a hi performance automotive coil, and beings it looked like it had an old style car coil I figured I'd give it a try. It started and ran smoother, so I began making a mount. After it was all said and done, I started it and let it run. Almost instantly the muffler started glowing as did the pipe at the gasket. I turned it off, waited a sec and tried it again, within a few seconds it did it again. It was at 3/4 throttle with no load. The light was fading, wasn't dark though. Did the coil bring out a problem that was already there? Is this even a problem? Seems a bit much to me for a little 12 hp engine to roast its pipes so fast.
