Gravity feed vs mechanical feed wood chipper

Ten inch chipper; sounds like you have a wood eating MONSTER!! Like a few others have said, I have a wood burning stove and everything over 3" or so goes to heat the house in winter.

Monster? Terrifying!

I don't have anything that burns wood, and a 25 acre woodlot/future home site that I'm putting in roads, and clearing for the house. I've got firewood everywhere, and can't seem to give it away.

It was this thread Roy, post #21. Thanks again for the tip about Amazon. Like I said previously, I ordered it through them. Amazon now collects Texas Sales Tax but it was still cheaper with the free shipping.

I just got through putting the helmet together (I've always had good luck with Amazon free shipping; articles arrive much quicker than they quote). Real nice helmet that fits well. It's a great bargain for the money. Now if only the freight company would deliver the chipper to the dealer; LTL shipments can take longer than quoted unfortunately.

Those of us that do burn wood and have a chipper........lol......seems if you have something it is the best and do not leave any room for what the other guy has and thinks works just fine.........Anyway.....Since the storms of fall 2010, the tornadoS that went through April 2011, and the drought that continues and contiues....we in NW Georgia have hundreds of cords of wood just laying and going to rot......Talking 36f" X 100' oak and hickory.....wish we could get ANYBODY to get rid of this stuff........I have at least 3 years spit and going to dry rot.........................Without my chipper that processes 4", or more ;but dont like the burden on my machine, I would have brush piles that would fill the woods........God bless.........Dennis

Here she is all put together and waiting on me to hook her up to the tractor. Unfortunately, the tractor is 45 miles away at the weekend place at the present time.

Looks nice, just like mine! Those Canucks put together quite a pallet, eh? I think it took me longer to take the pallet apart and get the parts loose than to assemble the unit!

Yep, good pallet and I have to say I was impressed with the fabrication of the 2 metal brackets used soley to secure the machine to the pallet. The brackets were cut nicely, shapped very well and had nice welds on them. In fact, the brackets showed better fabrication skills than the work done on some of the Chinese machines I looked at, and I mean the actual Chinese machines..

Yep, I agree -- those brackets were definitley cut on some automated precision machine, and the welds were excellent. I kept them around for a few months thinking I could reuse them, but realized the shapes were just odd enough that it would be a long shot, so I recycled them with some other scrap I had around.

Everything about the BX-42 is like that -- it's built extremely well through and through. Well worth the money.

I have been needing to use mine to chip up limbs from an oak I cut down a couple weeks ago, but the **** weather is not cooperating -- we get a rain shower the day before I plan to use it, every time. I attempted to chip wet limbs a few months ago, and though the chipper ran fine, I got soaked to the bone within minutes, to the point where my pant legs were running like a river. Not pleasant. So I learned not to handle wet limbs….
