Apparently it was built in 73. In 2000 its hull forward of the engine area was cut off and scrapped, and a new hull with self unloading features was added. Interesting.

Its Azipod pods, but I was thinking the ring or rudder that went around the propeller that turned to steer. Not a whole pod. As far as I know, the only Azipod pods on the lakes is ice breakers.

That's the name I was thinking of. I think you're correct about the rudder. Trying to find pictures of it.

Herbert C Jackson leaving Cliffs Dearborn MI, headed for layup at Nicholson’s here. With bow thruster issues, Tug Wisconsin assist the Jackson out of the Rouge River. Tug Pennsylvania joins them on the Detroit River to assist the layup. These are quite the photos!
