Gun safe question, are they really safe?

As others said, any safe can be broken into. Just depends on the tools they have, and the quality.

For me, buying a safe isn't about preventing theft. If they want it bad enough, you ain't gonna stop them. For me, its about keeping the guns secure from the kids, or protected from fire. If they get stolen, thts what I pay insurance for.

I saw a really good safe broken in to with a gasoline powered concrete saw with a diamond blade.

Many that must of taken some time and made a horrible racket.. But they did it.

Yeah...turns out safes aren't all that safe. Here's one somebody left behind in a barn on a property I bought some years back. They had tried to cut the hinges off and take off the door. The doors on safes are probably the strongest part....the sides/top/bottom/back....not so much.

5 minutes with a thin metal cutting blade on a side grinder opened a new 'door'....couple more minutes with a demo hammer to knock out the heat resistant cement, and another 5 minutes with the grinder on the inner liner, and this one was completely accessed. Had to know before I hauled it to the scrap yard.

and yeah...there was a few bucks in coin in the thing.

Not sure if they are good or not. How long will it take you to give him/her the combo when they are beating your wife with a crow bar?

Yep....got a plan for that as well. Set of shelves located in narrow (one person wide) hallway leading to safe. I'll gladly open the safe (which is mostly filled with papers), then back away....passing or standing beside to the shelves...which have a steel snubby .357 magnetically suspended under a shelf down low enough you'd have to be on your knees to see it, but easily for hand access. Hopefully while the crook is occupied with my insurance papers, I'm bringing a pistol to bear on the back of his head.
