Virginia's Shenandoah Valley got hit pretty hard. The house was battered by high winds Friday night, lost garbage cans - out of a rack yet - the hot tub cover and a lot more. But nothing serious. Tried to get out this morning, found my mile long driveway literally paved with a few inches of twigs, branches and leaves... And more. Main drive was blocked by the tops of two trees, piles of really big branches, and a locust tree that that just folded up over the gravel. My back-up emergency road across a neighbors was blocked a a 65 foot tulip poplar and a half dozen smaller walnuts. My John Deere managed to clear a path for a 4wd out in an hour or so, but I'll be using the chain saw for a long time on really clearing the stuff.
However, I feel pretty lucky. Nothing valuable was damaged and I got my power back on about 7 this morning. Over 100,000 in this region are still out - with super hot temps today and tomorrow.
I have lived in the region 60+ years and never seen winds like last night. I've experienced hurricane force winds before, and the winds Friday were certainly hurricane-force.
