Had a heck of a storm yesterday

May be 5-7 days before power is restored in southeast Ohio. Bad timing for this storm to hit with high humidity and temps. Ohio declared state of emergency-not sure if it will do anything for my family though. Lots of tree damage at our place, but luckily no damage to buildings.

I talked to a power company guy this morning around Harpers Ferry WV. We may be out for up to six days in certain areas. They were waiting for help form out of state crews. 3/4's of Jefferson and Berkley counties were out of power along with most of Loudoun, VA. We took a ride yesterday with a chainsaw and helped some neighbors out. I could not believe the damage in the town of Charles Town and surrounding area. I would not doubt at all if we hada tornado or two to roll through the area. After the last storm we had my wife and I have gotten proactive with tree trimming and drainage. IT seemed to pay off for us but other people have not been doing the same, or have not been lucky. The last storm 2 years ago I had a tree on my truck so it sparked me to cut and trim a lot of trees. I looked and apparantly we have a chance of severe storms today again.

They are saying the 5th for us to get power restored. They are saying the 10th for Wellston and Jackson where Monica's family lives.

No our generator won't run our central A/C. Didn't stop me from trying though. It is running a window unit that is keeping our master bedroom/bathroom pretty cool though. Just have fans elsewhere. Not great but tolerable. Looks like the storm hit a much wider area than I thought. I hadn't previously heard that Columbus was hit. Glad you didn't have major damage! The airport here report wind gusts of 78 mph. Been a hot day cutting up trees, but made a little progress. Sure will be glad to get things back to normal. Still haven't heard any estimate of when power will come back on, but I image it will be a week or so. Still have power lines down on my driveway and all over the hill, and have yet to see an AEP truck.

The greater DC area still has about 300k people without power. This is four days after the storm came through. Word has it, maybe by Friday for full restoration. The heat index is about 100, and the next four days will be the same.

It is a mess in and around this area.

I heard at the height of this storm in the mid-atlantic area it was 5.1 million without power.

There saying Friday for us as well, but I have yet to see a power truck in my area and still have power lines down on my driveway, so I'll be surprised if its on by then. Unbelievable how wide spread this storm was and how many people were affected. I'm very thankful that we didn't have any more damage than we did, and that we are fortunate enough to have a small generator to keep things tolerable. I work for the state and was fortunate enough to not have to work yesterday, but it's back to the grind today.

Just be thankful you guys who were hit have tractors to help clean up the mess. :)

Wind pressure goes up with the cube of velocity, so wind with a force of 3.43 at 70 mph has force 5.12 at 80 mph and 7.29 at 90 mph. Only a few mph can make a big difference in the damage.

Power is still out and I have been running continuous for over 80 hours. My father in law is on oxygen and he is out of tanks so we have to have electricity to run his oxygen concentrator. Not complaining as there are others who are worse off. I grabbed a 12K BTU window unit to cool the house down a little. There has been a real problem getting gasoline but diesel is available. The MIL and FIL power was restored and we took them home wouldn't you know that we just got inside (I went ahead and turned AC on) and a small storm and knocked the power off again. Brought them back to the house where we are still on generator power. I am getting tired.

We've been without power since Friday, and AEP says my area is scheduled for restoration by Sunday. No water, since the pump's down. It's in the 90s and I suspect we'll have quite a few heat-related deaths before this is over. I've been ferrying water over for the horses from the neighbors, whose pump is wired into their generator. A tree fell on the chicken pen, but thankfully missed the coop. Trees down everywhere--I cut up two maples for the neighbors yesterday that they'd planted when they built their house. One of the large horse troughs blew all the way across the field, and most of my tomato stakes broke or blew away.

Heck of a way to end a drought--and we still need rain.
