Greetings bredren - I have a 124 that has been hard to shift lately. I have to really slam it into the gear, and it grinds a bit. Upon examining my clutch operation, I noted that my teaser spring is split in two pieces. Could that be the cause of my issue? See the photos. I will try to post s video of the clutch in operation.

How do you post videos on this forum?

Time to rebuild your clutch, ramming her into gear and grinding teeth are not the way to be shifting the old girl. hammer out the roll pin at the rear coupler, remove the hood and nose casting, then unbolt the engine and slide it forward to disengage the clutch from the driven plate. Once the clutch is out, it takes a special jig tool in your bench vise to replace the springs and compressing things back together. There are work arounds depending how strong you are. Several good youtube videos on rebuilding the IH cub cadet clutch. Once redone, your good for another 20+ years!! Mike
