HAS THE COST OF GAS CHANGED THEY WAY YOU MOW?

Just wonder if the cost of gasoline has changed the way you mow you grass or the frequency of which you mow it. I guees this would relate more to larger acreages, but mabey not.

You're right, Frank. I have a very small lawn now and the only thing that changes my mowing frequency is the amount of rain we get. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif But maybe that's been the next door neighbor's problem. The renter next door just finished mowing a few minutes ago. That was the second time this year it's been mowed, and the grass was well over knee high both times. The other time, some guy showed up in a pickup with a walk behind mower and string trimmer, and did the job. This time the neighbor was doing it himself. Maybe he finally bought a mower. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I'd have mowed it for him myself except there's only a 3' gate into the back yard and my little Toro ZTR won't fit through that.

But gas prices have made me think more carefully about combining trips when possible and making fewer of them in the car or pickup.

The price of fuel hasn't affected the way I mow, but lack of time sure has.

So far this year, I only mow back to about 100 feet behind the house EVERY time. I get the next 500 feet only every second or third time. Once the house goes up for sale, I want it to look good all the time, so I will try to do the whole thing every time.

It's changed the way I mow for sure.

I mow the rental property one time a month and scalp it so it's good for 30 days.

We let the horses mow as much of our lawn as they can get to without getting into the flower beds or bushes. The added benefit is that the fertilize as they mow. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

They are also like a lawn roller....smashing mole trails down as thy go along, muzzles to the ground.....mowing, I mean munching happily away.

I imagine the UPS man was pretty surprised last Friday when he opened the front yard gate to leave a parcel on the front porch and was staring face to face with a 2100 pound Percheron mare.

Daryl, I guess it just depends on what kind of soil you have, but I had a neighbor down in the country who had the bright idea of letting the cows into his yard to "mow". But after one time, he found he didn't like those 2" deep cow tracks all over the yard. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

No, but the lack of rain sure has. The pasture is just now breaking through the ground on the 6 acres we keeep our horses on.

Gas has not but extreme heat and dust changes my mowing frequency.

Its been raining here for 3 days straight and no end until next weekend......wish I could send you some. Looks like I'll have to "mow" sooner.
