having trouble with my 5525 power reverser

My tractor is flashing N when I try to move forward or back without the manual foot clutch. When using the foot clutch I can drive the tractor as normal but to change directions I must stop then change the reverser and then move with the foot clutch. I haven't really checked anything yet as I don't know where to start looking. I don't mind buying the shop manual but I'm not sure what to buy. Dealer said he has two CD to order but he never has and doesn't really know what they have in them. Maybe one on you all can tell me it they are the books I need. TM2197 for $94 and the other is TM2187 for $187. I want the keep the tractor for ever so if they are the right books that will help me trace a problem and show how to fix them they will be worth the money.

I reading in other posts I read about a code checking but I don't see where this plugin would be or how to get codes. Mine is a JD 5525 IOOS All I have is the operators manual and I will check the Fuses But everything electrical else seems to work. Can anyone give me some advise? Where is the computer in this thing? Thanks

I can only help you on the manuals question. If you goto the URL provided you will see what the manuals are for the 5525. The can be ordered as paper or on CD. You might consider going through a dealer to save shipping cost.

The TM2187 is the repair manual. It tells you how to disassemble and assemble everything. The TM 2197 is the diagnostic and test book. It helps you to figure out what is wrong to fix. In my opinion, the diagnostic and test book is most important. The diagnostic connector is right next to the fuse panel, but you need a computer with service advisor program and a interface cable to connect it.
