From my limited experience but done this one year. It's a 50/50 split. Since then I found a lady that would do it all and pay me $10 per large round bale. This way is better for me cause I don't need the hay and I don't even have to touch it.

Depends on how good your hay is around here. 50/50 would require you to pay for fertilizer and spray, maybe even commit to several years. 60/40 with decent hay and no real financial input or commitment from land owner. 75/25 for grass & weeds. In the last few years, it's got VERY expensive to bale hay. Even though owning the land isn't cheap either, the guy who owns the baler won't be baling unless he can hope to make a buck.

I get 1/3 of the round bales that are baled from my property (mixed grass, few weeds). I have no financial inputs- this guy fertilizes lightly every 5-10 years, but overall I doubt it keeps up with nutrient removal by the hay.

He also pays $5 per bale if he takes all the hay, but I need the round bales for my cows. The same hay bales will sell on the summer market for $20 each.

There is one guy who I bale hay for on his land. I take care of the fields (70 acres) and decide when to cut and which sections to cut first and more or less run the place for him. He gets his choice of hay though as he sells about 300 bales each year just to keep himself busy. I charge him 90 cents per bale (small squares) he keeps and sell the rest of the bales myself. He is happy to have someone taking care of his land as he can no longer take care of it and I have some decent hay fields to work. The ground has not been neglected but it has not been taken care of the best either so this is my fourth year there and I still have some work to do on a couple of the fields.

Thought I would post a conclussion to the above. I made an arragement this week for a man to take care of everything to include fertlizer (already done) no expense on my part whatso ever and I get 25% of the hay. May be good then again maby not. I will not have to do any work since my haying days or over. Thanks to all who replied.
