Heat Reclaimer for wood stove

Does anybody use a heat reclaimer on their wood stove? Considering one for my shop....don't know much about them. Do they work well? I see they run anywhere from about $100 to $200. I have a 6 inch stove pipe on my wood stove. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd be a bit weary of cooling my smoke too much and leading to increased creosote production.

Same goes for wrapping the pipe in copper to generate hot water.

Maybe a post on Hearth could give you some more definite answers.

cabin, source of heat is a 35 gallon drum turn on its side, it has 2 blowers/fans, one moves air around back side edge of the drum. the other, is a "reclaimer" i guess. it fits between the outlet pipe and the roof vent. it has a fan that blows air around the pipe. before it goes out the roof. it does put out some descent, to a point i do not want to put my hand or face in front of it.

no idea about creosote or like, but poor temperature gauge on the pipe, still goes up, and does not go down till coals are nearly out.

I have used a Magic Heat type reclaimer on my old Cemi stove for many years without any problems with buildup in my chimney. Have good hot fires everyday with good dried hardwood..... They don't last forever, but I got 8 years out of my old one still in pretty good shape. Just repiped/put a new one in last summer and this is my current one in use as we speak... The biggest problem with them as the thermostats need to be replaced every three years or so...depending...

Thanks Jerry for the info........sounds like your happy with that model. Currently on sale at Northern Tools for $169. I have a shop with wood stove.....not well insulated....thinking a reclaimer would help on cold days. We don't get real cold.....30's mostly......once in awhile down in the 20's. Part of the question would be the cost of the wood. If, like a lot of us, you don't spend any money on wood, there doesn't seem to be much of a point in the heat reclaimer.

Looks like every time you blink those things go up in price. I think the first one I bought about twenty years ago was about $90, now... most places want $189...

Yea....I hear you. I have access to lots of wood so cost isn't the issue.....I was just wanting to warm the shop quicker....I thought the reclaimer might help?
