OK time to show off another scrap metal project. Got the idea from the gang on the site and made this simple dolly. Oh what a difference it makes in hooking/unhooking from the tractor, and rolling it to a corner of the shop. Literally a 2 minute job. Highly recommend a dolly for this kind of attachment.

Color is not 'tractor orange', but I like to think of it as 'safety' orange. Actually, it is 1969 Chevy truck orange.

Trick to the design was to flip the angle over, and mount the center beam to the bottom of that. This way the unit sets well on the 2x6 and no interference from the drop under the swivel.

I plan on making a perch for the bucket end rather than the wood block. Just haven't gotten to it yet. I would like to have it sit so I can reach all the grease fittings on the dolly.

Enjoy.:)

The dolly looks like it's lower than the BH when BH's mounted on tractor; did you use stabilizers to lower onto the dolly? (Thinking about "stretching" hydraulic lines, possible damage...) What was your procedure for placing onto dolly?

Dolly had to be low so BH would clear the lower hooks of the frame plates on the tractor. It drops down about 3-4 inches when setting. That is why I had to flip the channel over, and lower the center bar as well. I could have used smaller casters but I did not want to sacrifice rolling or wheel load.

The hoses on the JD backhoe are disconnected (rockshaft is then connected to hydraulic power), then the rockshaft is used to lift up first, pull the pins, then set it down on the dolly.

Hooking it up is just that easy too. Just wheel it up to the plates which have corresponding guides on the BH, then raise the rockshaft to the top, and put the pins in. Then swap two QD hoses and go.

Dolly is real stable when loaded too. I shook the unit as much as possible and it will not tip by my force on level ground. I made the front wheels wide for stability.

Dolly is light enough to stand it up in a corner or on a wall for storage.

Dan22 - is that a '61 VW bug in the background? I can't see the engine cover handle... so that clue is missing.

Real nice and practical project.

Thanks for sharing.

I'd like to do something similar, problem is, I don't have a nice concrete spot like yours for storage.

I'd be storing outside.

Real nice job.

Sincerely,
Joel

Posts like this make me want to pour a concrete floor for my prospective tractor shed. What a difference it would make...

Kudos on the nice build, and ditto's on the nice smooth concrete floor comments! I've got the same 47 hoe on my 4200JD and love it! ~Scotty

Mike

That is a '55 bug waiting for a restore some time in the future. My Dad is the original purchaser and he gave it to me. I restored it in the early '80s, then about 5 years ago, a drugged out bimbo without a drivers license or insurance T-boned me and took out both sides. I flew out of the car (no seat belts) but fortunately only got a scratch. I consider myself quite lucky, and pretty much wrote the whole incident off. Bimbo was arrested and ordered to pay restitution, but you know how that goes.

Thanks for the great comments. My next project will be some gauge wheels on my newly acquired SpeeCo rear blade. I just rebuilt the swivel on it this weekend, and it works really sweet.
