HELP! My JD 4300 is out in the cold!

I was skidding logs yesterday with my JD 4300 and I ran over a stick that knocked the sending unit off the side of the PTO. It stalled the tractor immediately and now the starter will not engage.. I already tried to tie the wires together, that did not work. Any ideas on how to get the starter to engage as well as the injection pump?

What do you mean by "the sending unit" ?

I ripped off the wires to the mid PTO, but that didn't shut down my 4300.
I haven't deciphered why, but do you possibly have the mid PTO engaged, thus getting a shutdown mode?
