Hi boys,
Not sure about you I love my chainsaws.
I've always run Stihl's and they have never failed me. I currently have 3 saws in my stable, ms170 for light pruning in the garden, MS390 for general firewood and a MS660 for the bigger stuff including a bit of chainsaw Milling. What's your preference? I've never run Huskys however some people I know love em. Stihl have the world wide reputation and I understand is the weapon of choice in most heavy duty / forestry applications. Two things I would change in my current line up is I would run a professional arborist saw rather than the ms170. Something like a ms 192t ( the MS170 was a deal sweetener when I bough my JD ride on). And I am planning on getting a Sthil pole saw. The Aussie delivered MS 660 is standard with a dual port muffler and a high output bar oiler and really rocks!

I would choose between the two based on dealer, price, feel, features, etc, disregarding brand.

I currently run both brands. Husky 142 with 14" bar for light work and limbing, really does a nice job in this role. Stihl 026 with 18" bar and an MS362 with 20" and 24" bars. Both of these are in the Stihl pro class and do a very good job for me. Both brands have been very reliable and never let me down. Can't ask for anymore than that>

Hey Bruce , what saws are you running now?

Stihl has had to bend over for the EPA. They tweak the oiler to work with their chains and almost run dry on long bars. They choke up the muffler like putting a speed limiter on a racing car. But changing the muffler, putting on a HO oiler and a Woods port and a 660 will rock.

I personally would NOT prefer to own one. Two are better :)

an 088 or 880 runs really nice.

I didn;t like the feel of the stihls when I was do for another saw.. something lighter with more features to support my aging 1993 husky 51.. Settled on the XP 550 digital, no crying here, just smiles ear to ear.. I have their pole saw too and like it quite a bit.. you can make one **** of a mess in no time though!

I run a older husky 55 rancher (not a plastic case) for the light stuff. I run a husky 372 xp for the heavy stuff

I run a Husky 455 and I've gone thru cord after cord after cord of wood, perhaps 50 cord or more, much from 36inch logs. If I ever wear it out or break it, I'll get another.

Stihl for me 35 year old 049 20inch bar runs and starts like new and a new ms362 24inch bar. I got the 362 because parts for the 049 are hard to get, I ran over the saw when it bounced out of my loader bucket and broke the top handle. Took awhile to find a replacement.

No issue in Australia, they come standard with the dual port muffler and high output oiler so no mods required. I almost went for the 880 but the weight was my worry. I would like to get an old 090 for the mill though.
