Got tired of holding that red button down while pushing green striker button and attempting to look in that little window down below to see if / when the pilot lights. Quick Grip clamp to the rescue.

Quick & Easy - I use a small self lighting propane torch. It quickly heats the thermocouple then in a few seconds, just turn the valve to ON.

That's a good idea. My tankless heater has been giving problems lately. The pilot is designed to be near the thermocouple but not touch it. I am tired of replacing the thermocouple! I think I might just extend the pilot tip a 1/4 inch or so with some copper sheet rolled in a tube and crimped over the pilot. That will bring the flame closer to the thermocouple. Using a propane torch or even a barbecue lighter would save me some headaches here!

Can't use a torch on that type wh. It is sealed system. If your having problems with the pilot going out on that AO smith. You need to order a t.couple assy

Thanks kenmac. I wish I knew the part number. Tank was purchased from a plumbing supplier so maybe someone there can locate an assembly if I give them the tank Mod. No.

There should be a 800 # on the tank. Call the # & give them the mod / ser # . Tell them you are having pilot outages. They know what parts you'll need. They will ship them to you
