Home building (rear) wheel wts

You're using all-thread for the posts? That seems to be mild steel, and bends easily in my experience. Maybe you could order large grade 5 or grade 8 bolts now that you know what length you need.

[just got back to catch up]

That's a thought, but like with too-stong a shear bolt, would there be more risk to the rest of the setup with more strength in the rod? Don't want to have an argument/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gifbetween bolts attaching the plate to my wheel and that one, etc.

Perhaps if the higher grade bolt was more brittle, it would simply snap off cleanly if "stressed" /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif?

My spouse's thought is cut the rod shorter this time. Something about the idea that if it ain't in the path, won't get hurt /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Work is at a standstill at our farm with all the wet stuff round here. Slippn' n sliddn's no fun on a big blue tractor.

I just went down to the local oilfield supply store and asked the guys there if they had any junk 2 inch wellhead flanges in their junk pile, and they said go help yourself to what ever I could find. I found 4 of them, hauled them home and just bolted them on the rears on my JD 2210. Then even took some JD yellow spray paint and painted them to match the rims, and they look like they came from the factory. Added about 120 pounds total weight.
Cheap at three times the price. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Don

I measured the distance between the holes on my my rims and then searched around and found a set of wheel weights off of an old Deere combine. They work great and they weigh about 185 lbs a piece. I got them cheap since there isn't much call for them anymore. They were off of a 6600 John Deere. They haven't made these for a while.

( That's a very similar project. The Mike I mentioned was on here before it became TBN, back when it was a Kubota only site. It was back when there was maybe 50 or 60 members, and it took days, not minutes, before someone read a post, much less responded to it /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif The information shared though, was very helpful and informitive, just like now /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

Here are couple of pic's from March 1999 I think they are from the former Mike Simpson site.

Here are mine.It was kind of funny with Mike. I made mine before I even knew anything about his site and then something was said and he got upset and said I stole his idea. I don't know what he thought about the guy that was selling them a while back. I have had mine sense 1999 or 2000. He did have a good site with several good ideas.

Well I can see where he might have thought that /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif. It is a simple idea and is easy to see how people could think someone is copying their idea. I still have a bunch of his ideas and pic's on my computer from his site. I agree it was a good site at the time. Not to highjack this thread I will say though RobertN is one of only a handful of names I remember and saved some info from, on the old Kubota Tractor message board from 98/99. The main reason I bought my first Kubota L275 was mainly do to the Kubota tractor message board and the wealth of info at that time. As you can see some is still useful today /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I did have a lot of the stuff from MarkC. But I lost it in a hard drive crash. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
