Why not use two tubes several feet apart? More stability and strength.

I am thinking of buying a northern tool box blade
https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200660623_200660623
If i welded a hitch tube to it and attached to hitch receiver welded to an attachment plate. Would that be enough to support it and drag when it's shipping weight is listed at 390 pounds? My gut says it would need some lateral support of some kind. I would only use it in reverse. Does anyone have any experience with the power trac box blade? It looks like it weighs about half what this one weighs.

If I were going to be modifying a 3pt implement, like a box blade, I'd look for a used one at a farm equipment dealer, or local sales, first, before buying a new one and hacking on it. An implement like a box blade is usually pretty heavy steel, and not easily damaged. Used, it will most likely be good as new, just minus a pretty paint job.

I would think you would be better off welding some rectangular tube or C-channel with brackets across the 3 pt braces (parallel to the box blade) and then weld an attachment plate to that. I almost always buy this type of stuff used as Moss said. In this case though, it might be hard to find one that small.

If you get one for $100 you could narrow it yourself, too, if you have the equipment.

The wider they are, the thicker the metal so you have to worry about weight given the leverage of the blade. He is getting close to the limit but should be ok doing what you say if it is only a 5' or possibly 6' blade. I doubt I would want to try a 7 or 8' blade.

I owned a 6' box blade for my old IH2500b. It was HEAVY... there's no way my PT425 could have pulled it with even a small amount of bite in the soil. No way at all. So I'm guessing from experience that even a 5' would be difficult. If I ever were to get a box blade for the PT425, it would be 4' maximum width, with removable scarifier teeth. Just my opinion, of course. ;)

Sorry, I meant with regards to taking a larger one and cutting it down. I think the thickness of metal on an 8' box blade would make an 8' cut down to 4' be too heavy for the PT425.

The box scraper I built from scratch is 54" wide. I wanted something a little more than 48" but not as wide as 5 feet. It's not nearly as heavy as a commercial unit but that is an advantage pulling it with my 425. I attach it to my 425 using the 3point hitch that I welded to a spare quick attach plate. I still need to weld some pin holders on my scraper to make it a little more firmly attached.
