Tiller Horsepower for a tiller.

I have a Yanmar 5ft. gear driven tiller. I browsing for information on tractor horsepower for this tiller. I would like diesel and 4 WD. Any recommendations are much appreciated. Other applications will be finishing mower, and light brush hogging, maybe a FEL.

My Dad uses a 5 ft tiller behind his Kubota and it's a 25 (I think, maybe it's 26 or 27) HP 4 wheel drive diesel. He also has a backhoe, FEL and 5 foot rough mower for it. It's been a great machine for him and his 5 acres, but for mowing more land, I like my 35HP a little better. I can mow taller stuff faster, without bogging down.

I have a Yanmar YFL60 (5') tiller that I got with my 22 hp YM tractor. Never even hit the governor while doing my gravel driveway. Just wish it was a 6' machine (wider than wheel track) for my current JD.

Do a Google on rototiller suppliers. They should list the horsepower required for widths.

The "HP requirement" may be for reasons of power or it can be for reasons of tractor size. A wider attachment can overpower a small tractor or can be too heavy for it to lift and still have steering.

KK 60" on a kubota L3410 (27.5 pto) is fine, the 72" would probably have been ok too.

I agree with John Bud and would also recommned that you get a tractor whose rear wheel width is slightly less than your 60" tiller width. Jay

If you are also going to be finish mowing with your tractor, perhaps one of the bigger "B" series Kubotas would be a good place to start looking. They have both mid, and rear pto's tight turning radii, and are light for their size. Used, perhaps a B7800,B2910, or B2710. New B7800, B2630, or B3030. Depending on your soil conditions of course. I've seen that size tiller on a B7510, but I think it would bounce a tractor that size around a bit in tough soil.
