Tonight I was pushing the 7500 more than normal. My Brother-in-law's ZTR was broken, so I went over to cut his grass. It's about 2 acres, and the last part of it needed 4WD to make it up the hill in the front. I was running at PTO RPM (around 2600), a bit faster than I normally run because his grass is so thick and tall. Right after that, I drove back to my place - about 500' - and started in on my grass. I noticed the steering was sluggish. The power steering on my tractor is usually spin-it-with-your-pinky easy, but turning it took some effort. Just on a hunch, I got my IR thermometer out of thr truck and shot the hydro cooling loops in front of the radiator with the engine running. They averaged around 160°F. I then took a garden hose and deluged the loops with cold water with the engine still running. After a few minutes, I reshot the temperature, and it had dropped to around 120°F. Hopped back on and finished mowing with normal power steering.
Would Super UDT do this, or is it rated for higher temps. At my 50 hour service, I changed the hydro fluid, using the UDT recommended by my dealer. Maybe at the next service I should use Super UDT? I thought I remembered seeing something that indicated Super UDT was designed for cold weather. Any info is appereciated......................chim
