I was recently driving down a side road near home and got to watch a couple combines and grain carts harvesting wheat on some small fields. I pulled over to watch this Country Ballet.

Early cotton beside the house was sprayed with defoliant a couple of days ago. Many will start digging peanuts in the next week or so. Sadly no pecans for the squirrels this year.

Good video made in France this year running JD X9 combines doing wheat. Professional filming, like its a Deere commercial. Gives a good view of just how wide those heads are. Note the little girls riding along, with I assume dad. :D
I didn't see a bunch of JD X9 combines on some of the big vlogs such as Farmhand Mike or Big Tractor Power this year. They featured them last year as demonstrators for machines coming out this year. This video as Arly said was probably and advertisement - did Deere not bring them out or did they just sell very poorly?

It seems to me that at some point you hit an economic limit on machine size. I was thinking the 30' heads were about it but I was sure wrong as there are 50' heads available now. Still with the concept of autonomous vehicles doing the farming and the issues with the massive weight and soil compaction I would think moer smaller lighter units would make more sense in the near future.

You've got to have a big barn for the tractors these guys use.

They picked the cotton yesterday. Two adjacent 10 acre fields picked in about 3 hours producing two approximately 20,000 lb. modules. This morning as they wait for the dew to burn off they are servicing the picker. Lots of grease. Then they will relocate to other nearby fields.

Are you saying 2000 lbs of cotton per acre? that seems incredible! I never thought it would be that much.

That is 4 bales to the acre. We used to say 1 bale per acre is break even point. I would say that is exceptional.

Mitch in the Red River valley of ND harvesting beets all night long. I'm getting to like the videos he makes. In case you are not familiar with this valley, here is more info. Here resides the deepest know humus on the planet.
