How do you carry your chainsaw ?

Gordon gould, How do you like the farmi and I was wondering if those ice changes snag sticks and brush and drag it up around the fenders?

I like the Farmi winch very much and it gets a lot of use. Other than spring I am in the woods all the time with it. A good winch like a Farmi will last you a long long time w/o trouble except an occasional cable replacement. I don't have trouble with the chains picking up sticks and brush that is big enough to be a problem and bash stuff up. They don't really pick up much small stuff either that doesn't fall off by itself. There are not dents in my fenders after 17 years. But I am careful also. The chains are mounted loose so the shake themselves clean. I don't think the ice picks make them any more likely to grab sticks than regular chains. They do collect leaves in the fall though but the leaves tear off when the chains start to work. The leaves look like a worse problem than they are.

I could not operate at all in the winter w/o goods chains and the rest of the year they give you a lot more traction getting up over slippery roots and smooth wet rocks and such. Also help protect your tire side walls.

Yeah. I have been looking at those winches on here for some time. I do know the guy sells uniforest in NY, Remsen. Their just pretty expensive. We have J5 bombardiers for a small company and their as good or better then a winch . You can drive pretty much to wherever you drop the tree. But I've been leaving the company equipment to the company lately since my father passed. Issues with the brother and I couldn't be bothered. I own the little tractor exclusively though so I have peered at both the winches and another J5 I would purchase myself. But at the moment I'm also building a 24x40 garage etc. I need to win the lotter. But those winches would make that tractor much more useful to me. He told me he could put 200 feet of cable or more on it It would allow me to travel along some of the bush roads and winch to the road. Or cut a good main trail into some wood and winch to the trail. Saving the little tractor much. I just wondered if many sticks would get caught in the chains and keep spinning. Good to know.

Just returned from the woods. All saws I used present and accounted for.

:D Al

I think I get your "drift"
in all the confusion, saw's do have a way of working themselves under a tire. I haven't crashed one yet but most of my friends have.:D

I bought a igland 3510 this spring. I was amazed at how strong it was. I could drop trees 150' off from my roads and twitch them right to my tractor where they would butt up against the back plate and I could lift them up and drive to my header. It is spelled Adirondacks pronounced AD ERR RON DAKS. Like everybody else if you live someplace you call it home and don't think much about it. My family has lived in the same small town of 200 people for many generations. As far as how far across would it be with no roads in some spots as the crow flys probably 50 miles in some spots. People from all over come to hike the 46 high peaks. The few that have climbed all 46 mountains it took them many years to accomplish. As far as ticks are concerned, i'm in the woods a lot and probably see one or two on me a year. Just check yourself in the shower if you have been in the woods or tall grass for any amount of time.

Yeah, I would like to walk across there. I used to know an old trapper in Remsen, he is gone now but often think of when they would come when we were kids. Igland. You like it by the sounds of it. It would save on the tractor I'd imagine if used safe and easy. Only need one main trail to cover quite a bit of wood. How much was the igland? They seem to run about $4000 Canada give or take of course. I hear from everyone though how tough and trouble free most of the winch brands are these days.

I bought a Farmi winch last year and love it. If your forest is dense I would highly recommend the self releasing snatch block. You can pull around corners that way.
