Hi everyone. I just found this site and thought I'd say hello. My fiance' and I just bought our first mower today-a 1018 at Lowes. It seems to be a pretty decent mower for the price. Does anyone else have one? How has it held up? Does it cut smoothly? I did find a post a few threads down mentioning how to disable the PTO reverse safety switch. I'll definately being doing that trick!!

I guess I'm the only one here with a 1018 /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

MattN03, I'm looking at buying a Cub also. I have been looking at the LT2180. I like the idea of it being shaft driven and a little heavier than the 1000 series. Keep me up to date about how it works for you. What kind of yard do you have and what will you be doing with it?

I'm running a Gt model from the 1000 series. GT1222. I've been running it since June 04. I cut 4 acres of kentucky prairie grass twice a week. I also use it to haul fire wood (1/3 face cord per trailer load). I'm amazed at how strong this 22 hp tractor (not shaft driven) is giving me for the buck. I was afraid it would be weak in tough working conditions (compared to my 18hp shaft driven yardman GT). Believe me it has nothing to envie from the shaft driven one. I'm truly surprised!! This 1000 series is just unbeatable in terms of price performance ratio. No wonder it's a record selling year at my dealer's. I'm sure your going to enjoy your tractor as much as I do mine. Great bye!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Well, I finally got to mow the yard a couple nights ago. It did a good job, and mowed evenly (even in some bumpy terrain). I did notice a fair amount of frame twist in the bumpier sections (we just bought the home & the previous owners dogs liked to dig I think). It's pretty quiet I thought also. So far so good! If you want to mow while in reverse, disconnect the rear safety switch which is above the tranny.

I bought a 1018 in May. Only have about 40 hrs. on it, but I
think it was a good purchase. I compared JD L110, Sears
4000, and a Husq and decided on the Cub. I've had no problems. I like the cut and the way it finely chops the clippings. The seating position, ride and controls are comfortable. I did have to adjust the hydro linkage to get the proper forward speed out of it. Also added a little homemade baffle to the lower left edge of the deck to keep it from blowing clippings out of that side. And I've decided to mow in reverse. I think you'll be happy with your new mower.
