kubota rtv900: kubota mx5200
Checking in on how much my 1992 chevy 1 ton dump truck can tow legally. It has a standard transmission 5 speed (low and overdrive) with a 350 engine and is 2wd. I cant find the towing ratings anywhere. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Did it have a tag on the inside of the driver's door like pickups of that era do? That usually tells the towing capacity.

Never seen a tag that says tow rating? I've seen tons that say axle ratings, GVWR, ect.

Knowing and understanding GVWR is important to towing because it tells you explicitly the maximum weight of passengers and cargo you can safely carry in your truck or SUV. GVWR is the total combined weight of truck, including all passengers, fuel, fluids and cargo. GVWR is constant and does not change, regardless of what you tow. It痴 engineered in when the vehicle is manufactured.

Because tongue weight must be included in the GVWR, you will need to know how much weight capacity you need to have 斗eft over for when you hook up your trailer.

For example, if you have a 5,000-pound truck with a 6,200 pound GVWR, you can safely carry 1,200 pounds in the vehicle. If you are towing a trailer with a 300-pound tongue weight, the amount of passengers and gear you can carry decreases to 900 pounds. Simple, right?

What does GVWR mean?

The correct and only answer to your question is GCVWR minus the weight of your loaded truck. The GCVWR is Chevy's number for Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating. This number is in your truck's manual. At the same time. you should not exceed any of the other ratings for axle or total truck weight.

Say... for example the GCVWR is 17000 pounds. Your truck with a load of rock in the dump weighs 10,000 pounds. You may "legally" tow a trailer weighing only 7000 pounds or less. Any more and you are overloaded and in jeopardy legally in an accident.

Make sure your RGW ( ownership papers ) includes the weight of the truck & trailer....
