How to convince the wife to let me get one

I put mine on the M62 the day we got it. If she doesnt knock the garage over its all good. She can run over just about anything else :). After shoveling our house by hand for the past 10 years here and there she really enjoys running the tractor to move snow ;)

Yup, getting the wife involved in the labor process of whatever project you're on is the fastest way to get her to see your point of view.

In my case, it was the first year we tried to clear our 100' wide x 300' long driveway with nothing but a 48" walk behind snow blower (our second year in our place, first year our neighbor did it for us with a skid steer, but blew it up over the summer). That year we had a couple of really good storms. One in particular left our entire driveway under 4' to 5' drifts. And thanks to the snow plows, we had a wall of ice and snow at our entrance that was almost 6' tall, and about 12' across.

Now bear in mind, I had already been talking to her about getting a tractor at this point. But, she was firmly against the idea up until now.

So after this one particular storm, I told her I couldn't do this by myself, and that I was sorry, but she was going to have to come out and help me. So she wasn't strong enough to wrestle the snow blower into the drift, and the drive wheels alone (no chains) didn't have enough bite to drive itself into the snow, so I had to force it ahead to make any progress. Meanwhile, with the drift higher than the intake of the blower, wife had to take a shovel and knock down the drift in front of the blower so I could then drive the blower into it. To say that she struggled with this is an understatement. It was pretty tough going, and she had to stop often. And I would spell her frequently and do both "jobs" myself, but then I'd summon her back "to it", and we'd go some more.

Anyway, after 3 or 4 HOURS of this, we still hadn't made one single row of blown snow all the way out to the road yet. I could tell she was about done in, and I was getting there too. This truck we didn't recognize pulled up and this neighbor we didn't know offered to come clear our whole driveway for us. Told us to go inside and get warm, and he'd be back "in a while" and do it. So we went inside, fired up the kettle, wifey and I are sitting in the kitchen drinking hot drinks and this *huge* JD pulls into our driveway (through the snow, lol).

I run out there quick and tell him where I'd like it and he says "ok, go back inside and keep warm". So wifey and I are sitting there in the kitchen again, and we see this *huuugggeeee* mountain of snow go past our kitchen window, followed by his equally huge JD.

My wife sees this, is "thoughtful" for a minute and asks me, "Is that the size tractor you want?"

He had our entire driveway cleared off in 15 minutes.

And that folks, is how I got my tractor.

LOL.

I find its easier to seek forgiveness than ask permission
