I need to replace the bucket cylinder on my Woods 750 backhoe -Bent rod /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Is there anything I need to know before I start disconecting hoses or pins? Any advise on how to support bucket while doing this??
Thanks for any advise.

Make absolutely sure all the pressure is relieved first, including lowering the loader and bucket will not curl when you break the line. Next, not to be nosey (ok I'm nosey) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, but how did you bend the cylinder?

I was digging a stump that was too large to pull out of hole so I cut it as deep as I could with a chain saw and then tried to split the kerf open with the edge of the bucket. I think I was ok until I used the larger boom cylinder to leverage it.
Next thing I knew the hoe was making a bad (expensive) noise when I curled the bucket. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thanks for the advise steve. I'll do that.

Might hit pins and locks with PB Blaster or LPS, get some plugs for lines to keep dirt out and save mess. When I repackec my ARP I laid it flat on old paneling to save mess and keep dirt away. You might have to curl bucket in to lay flat with bent rod.

take your cylinder to a machine shop, or hydrulics shop and ask if they can straighten it. they should be able to fix it in about an hour, for a straight labour charge.

we do them all the time.

Thanks all for the great advise. Bull- I wish I asked this question a few weeks ago -I already got a new cylinder from Woods. Well at least I'll have the plugs to keep the mess down. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif And getting the old one streightened will give me a cylinder to use for projects. This is a great site!

I bent the bucket curl cylinder on my Woods 1050 twice in the beginning. It more or less resembled a U bolt. I would straighten a slightly bent one, but not one bent like I did. Also the bucket curl cylinder does much of its work fully extended and it changes angle quite rapidly as the bucket curls under full load. I my opinion, it is the toughest job a cylinder does on my machines. Just my thoughts,

Andy
