Anyone using a M and M Hydra Snip on a JD 3720? The website doesn't specify the pressure/flowrate.

Higher pressure will let you cut the bigger trees, but size of cylinders will also dictate how much power. No mention on website bore size of cylinders. Low flow rates of a CUT will also hurt cycle times. Their video shows a TC (toolcat) which will have flow rates of 21-27 gpm with 3000 psi. Your 3720 flow will be half of that or less. Your 3720 will probably have psi of 2500 but it can be increased.

Tractors with FEL's don't work the best. Impossible to see shears when cutting the base of the tree. Skid steers work much better. I use my 16" Dymax on my TC and small wheel loader. A 16" shear will cut a 16" cedar on a good day. Probably need to decrease size of tree by 1/3 cutting a hardwood.

Thanks for the reply. I'll be snipping A LOT of red cedar under 1' in diameter. I can appreciate that there's a compromise but I'll never cut hard wood with it and it can take its time - I just need it to work better than me. With half my neck fused, crawling under a tree is hard on my remaining disks and I'm fine with coming back after and neatening up the stump with a chainsaw afterward. I get that it'll be hard to see the blades engage the tree but I've landed afterburning aircraft from the back seat and that has more consequences from failure.

PSI according to the website: 2500

Flow rate: 13.9 GPM

My guess is that the cycle rate will suffer but the PSI not being that far off should make it viable for the relatively small red cedar I'll be cutting. So...think it'll cut?

It will work fine. I have used my brothers shear on my M5040 and have cut large diameter cedar trees that required multiple cuts. The only issue is my tractor is a gear tractor and not a hydrostatic drive, so it is not as convenient in cutting the trees. If the trees you are cutting have lots of low branches, use the weight of the shear to knock down and break off the branches, then you can drive the shear upto the bottom of the trunk.
Using the shear is much faster and easier than using a chain saw :)
Now I am using the super heavy grapple I bought and just pushing the cedars over :D

Talking to the manufacturer, the device doesn't require much flow but is most effective at 3000 psi. At 2500, hardwood 8" and softwood 12" trunks may bog the cutting. If that occurs, open the scissor, push forward into the tree to get more mechanical leverage and finish the cut. I ordered one so we'll see.
