I need an AR-15

Oh boy. There should be lots of input.

I like the S&W mp15 sport. About 600.

Basic gun I'd say either Daniel defense or Rock River arms. M&P seems to get mixed reviews. You could also build your own for a little less if you are so inclined.

You better hurry as the supply is drying up. I bought a colt last year.

There are quite a few in the 600-700 price range that are ll why I would consider a good reliable gun.

You will get alot of flack from the die hard AR guys that think you need to spend $1500+, chrome barrels, gas piston, etc. And think the $600 low budget guns are junk. Sure, they don't have all the features and built to last 20000 rounds, but far from what call junk.

Amoung others all make a no-frills entry level gun.

Do you plan on buying online? Or from a local dealer? I'd start by seeing what your local dealer carries

Rural King has been having an Omni (polymer receiver, I think) on sale for $475 to $500. I've seen mixed reviews on it, but it might be worth a look.

I picked up a Delton a year or two ago, less than $600 with iron sights, and haven't had any problems with it.

A guy here at work buys receivers and builds the rest, but he usually ends up with $500 to $800 in them, the advantage being you can end up with exactly what you want.

I don't think you can go too wrong, and if you end up with one you're not happy with you can probably sell it or trade it for minimal loss.

Good luck and take care.

I went through this last year and felt that the best bang for the buck was a Core 15 that was for sale at Atwoods Farm Supply. They had a Ruger that was a hundred bucks less that was tempting, but I felt the extras on the Core 15 made it more desirable. I learned a lot reading forums online, but going to the stores, holding them in my hands, and getting a feel of the different brands is what helped me decide on what to buy.

I have to disagree with this statement. There are more AR's available than ever and stock is high with prices that are very reasonable. Post Sandy Hook shooting, I would've agreed with murphy.
