Since acquiring a tractor back in April, we have been steadily buying implements. The 2-disc Ferguson Plow and 20-disc harrow were in the weeds on our lot, everything else we picked up used.

Today we got the scrape blade and brush hog.
previously acquired were the 5-time cultivator (pictured with two times mounted), hay fork, boom, dump bucket . . .and not pictured is a potato plow, and a PTO winch that needs come fabrication to make it work with out tractor.

Now I have to put them to work!

Looks like all older stuff too. I enjoy owning older stuff. Wouldn't mind having that collection myself.

What I really need but don't want to need because i don't want to pay for it OR spend the time running it at 2mph, is a tiller.

Well, i want a bunch of other things too but im kind of counting on myself to build them out of junk around here rather than actually go buy them. :ROFLMAO:

Implements are great but what makes some of them over the top great is hydraulic top and tilt capability...being able to make pitch and angle changes without stopping and getting off the tractor is a game changer...!

I agree with the top link. The side link has limited use. It's only useful with a box blade imo. I use my hyd side link very little.

Don't see a box blade. That's probably my most used attachment.
I figure between the scoop and the scraper, I have most of my needs covered - the drive at the house is paved, and the lot where the tractor is will require a lot of clearing before I need to worry about using a box blade to make any roads pretty - they just need to be usable right now!

The Case tractor has a hand crank side link that is pretty easy to use from the seat, and I am thinking about fashioning a hand wheel to put on the mechanical top link to make it easier to turn rather than the two short stub handles on the casting.

hydraulic top link would be nice, but our tractor only has one valve for the lift arms, and adding additional valves is a bit more than I want to attempt right now - if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

I think the hog is the newest piece, early 90’s vintage. The boom may be newer, maybe not, but a boom is pretty much a boom.

I cannot find markings on the 20 disc, but it seems a bit newer than the two-disc, which is a Gen-U-Wine Ferguson (and not a hyphenated-Ferguson) unit.

Temporarily, I plan on using the 5-tine as a coarse rake for vines and bigger limbs, but thank you for the tip!

So i had a new thought when i came back to see the new posts..

As far as a box blade.. when did those things come into use? It occurs to me that the 3pt scoop/trip bucket did some of what a box blade does in terms of moving material from one place to another, because the main advantage of a box blade over a regular angle blade (which seems to have existed earlier?), is the ability to drag material without losing as much. I know most have rippers and two blades etc but i feel like the main feature of it is the 'walls' making it a 'box'.

So i wonder if there was any overlap between the spread of box blades and the trend away from 3pt scoops. A box blade is something that can do a half-ass job of being an angle blade and a scoop, and it's one piece that has no moving parts. 😂

It all depends on what type of works is being done...on the road I maintain (rocky, hilly, mountain road) using my rear scrape blade...I set the top link for the aggression once or twice but I am constantly adjusting the side link to keep the full length of the blade in contact with the surface...

The side link is essential for using things like 3PH pallet forks...especially on anything but level ground...

I find chain harrows to be very useful for maintaining gravel roads, leveling out bumpy fields, bedding seeds, etc. Most of the new ones for sale are flimsy and too light of weight. The old ones were made of a very heavy gauge metal. I have a new one I never use and an old one that I have mounted a couple of rail road ties for more weight to improve it's performance. I keep patching up when it wears out and re-using it again and again.

Oh, my scrape blade has three cylinders already, so I don't need the side link to float unless I'm using the box blade. I went all out on a scrape blade, but I forgot that some are cylinder-less.

A platform lift is a very useful item. For a while, I liked mine so much I kept it on the machine by default.

Pallet forks can be pretty useful, too. More so on a FEL, which would open up a whole new dimension for you. But even on the 3PT it could come in handy.

The forks on my hay roll fork are 48”, so I can easily put a pallet on it and move lighter stuff around - I wouldn’t try to move a pallet of 6 full fuel drums but one drum at a time would be fine IMO.

Are you talking about ‘hay spears’? I have thought of trying them on my small tractors since they dont lift much to begin with. They are seriously cheap compared to ‘real’ forks of any kind.

Yes - the one I got has two forks that are 48” long and approx 2”x3” square tube (same material the frame is made of), with points welded on them, and a spear point to keep the roll from rolling off when transporting. The spear on this one is about 14” long, while all the newer ones I have seen are 3’-4’ long, but a couple minutes with a grinder or torch can change that easily enough. I slid a section of pool noodle over the spear and then capped it with an empty bean can to prevent injury when using it as a forklift. Again, it is not going to have the weight capacity of a real set of forks, but for light utility moving, it is OK.

Just curious about hay spears. My pallet forks also have three sockets to accept individual hay spears. I don't have any hay to spear. However, when I see the spears for sale, I always wonder, is there some use I could make of this?

I know, I know. Jousting. But I don't have anybody to joust with. So, anything else?

Well, prodding maybe?
