I'm still contemplating what tractor to get for my 15 acres up in Vermont. Still considering the L3901 since it's a lot less $, but thinking about the advise I got here to suck it up and jump up to the L4701 I also looked at - more weight, HP, larger frame, etc. I was surprised the quotes I got for the L4701 are over $5k more than the L3901. I know it's a lot more tractor, but that is a big jump between consecutive model in the series. In fact, the L4701 is only a few hundred bucks less than the Grand L4060. Maybe there is a premium up here in the NE for the L4701 since it would be a good strong/small tractor to get in the woods? I like the L4701, but I don't know why I wouldn't spend a few hundred more ($5 a month) to get a L4060. Am I missing something?

Not sure if you're missing something. I'd buy the Grand L. I can understand 5k more for the 4701. I think it's a bigger frame size. More tractor for sure.

You won't regret the 4060.

I have the smallest of the Grand Ls, the L3560. Money well spent.

The Grand Ls have rear wheel widths adjustable in three or four increments, depending on what rims/tires you start with. Valuable feature on your hills. Specify how wide you want the wheels set before dealer puts on the wheels, when the chassis package and wheel package are taken off the delivery truck.

The HST/Plus transmission is the Grand Ls best feature. STALL GUARD on the HST/Plus transmission is its best sub-feature on hills and performing loader work.

Greater capacity FELs are available on the Grand Ls, as options.

I'm a dealer for a different brand, but I will say that Grand L is a sweet machine. I'd do the L4060 in a heartbeat over the xx01 series.

The 4701 is actually quite a value, and it has some pretty good upgrades over the 3301/3901 models beyond just the bigger size and more HP. But yeah, I'd be looking at a Grand L if it's only a teeny bit more.

Grand L for sure. The HST plus is the single best feature. Mine also has cruise control, a better seat, a rubber floor mat, a better set of gauges, and better 3pt arms over the standard L.

You can chase this thing all over the place, "well if I can get x for only y more money, why shouldn't I...?" As mentioned the 4701 has a lot more going for it over the 3901 than horsepower. Throw an MX into the mix and the decision gets harder.

I was skeptical of all the "hype" on the HST+ until I owned one and now can't imagine anything else.

However, I wouldn't buy anything without looking at all the good brands with good dealers.

Think long and hard, I "thought" I knew what I needed and the machinery in my barn is a far cry from what I initially went out to buy.

I found you can do very well maintaining a place with a small tractor. I did that for the latter part of last year with my Mahindra Max.28 as my other equipment was do down for repair. Only once did I have to ask for help.

In that case an L3901 would work, but the OP states he has projects. Agree what was previously said. Don't rule out a low how good L45. It is a crappy farm Ag. tractor, too heavy, very small tires, but a great "Project" tractor.

I have an L4701 and really like it. I could have bought a Grand L. Money is not the issue. I just didn't think I needed all the extra features for what I am using the tractor for. Mostly shredding around 12 acres 4-5 times a year and estate chores.

I started out thinking a B3350 was what I needed, then an L3301 or 3901, and ended up with a tractor about the size of a small L 60 series... but not a Kubota. Depending on your woods and property there could be such a thing as too large. One of the advantages of the Branson is the very tight turning circle. I use that on my steep wooded property.
