Hi all

I have been talking with my local dealer about a B7510 HSD with 75 hours. The tractor has been sitting on the lot for at least 6-8 months and I don't think it ran much if at all. I'm getting close to making a final offer and was wondering if the 100 hour service should be done before I take the unit home. Could you please share your opinion about that. Also what shold be done before even starting the engine if anything? I have no knowledge about diesel engines so any suggestion is welcomed.
Thank you

I would change all fluids and filters plus grease all points, also do complete service check...kinda like cheap insurance.

why don't you see if you can make part of the final price to include the 100 Hr service? change all fluids and filters. Let the dealer worry about what should be done when they start it.

I would change the oil myself. It will take awhile to put the other 25 hours on it. I would put the other 25 hours on it .Then get the 100 hours service. That way if any thing else needs done you can get it done then.

Can the diesel be harmed if it is not started up properly after such a long time? What should be done? How much smoke should I expect to see? The reason why i ask. There is no warranty included in the deal, and I would be stuck with any problem that might happen if the oil and grease is not up to par. Should I approach it just like a car or lawn mower? If it has not been used for several months I change the oil before starting.

Was the tractor subject to snow and cold temps?
Ask the dealer for pre owner and give him/her a call.
Have the dealer run the tractor around the yard for little bit to make sure brakes work and 3pt hitch etc..

You are buying this from a Kubota dealer so I would expect that he would give you a 30 day warranty on major components. Also I would request that they perform the 100 hour service before you take ownership. What to heck it will only cost him a few dollars and then you will know all of the fluids are fresh and clean, filters changed and the norm failure items checked.

He should do what he has to making sure you are a happy customer. If you are making a fair offer then he can afford to do something to make sure the tractor is good when it leaves his lot. If he is selling it as is where is then you will be holding the bad once you leave with it and I would not buy i.

Just my two cents.

If buying from the dealer I would make the offer based on him doing a full going over. I would have him change the fluids and check everything over. As far as starting if it has been sitting a long time I would not worry about that if only 6 or 8 months. Many diesels sit all winter and when needed they are just started up and ran. I am not sure if the oil and fluids is a big thing but since it is so close to the 100 hour just make it part of the negotiations.

Good Luck

Thank you all for the help. I was wondering if you can tell me if there is any difference in the basic unit of the B7510 and the B7510 Turf Special. What I have been able to find here suggests that the tractors are the same, but the Turf Special was sold with a no ground contact / belly-hung mower, turf tires and no FEL. Is there actualy any other difference in engine or whathaveya? I searched the Kubota site and found nothing.
Thanks again

I am pretty sure what makes it a 'Turf Special' is the fact that it has no fel (less weight), turf tires and that mower with zero ground contact.

To be honest with you, I just mowed 6 acres of finish mowing this weekend using a B7800 with a 72 inch mid mount finish mower (I have turf tires) but my mower has wheels that contact the ground and I still had my FEL on the machine and the soft Ohio earth and grass held up just fine.

I got the most damage when I made my turns too sharp..and not from the little wheels on my mower but from my front tires!
Turf special or not, there is definitely a technique that must be learned and it seems to me the only way to learn it is going to be seat time seat time seat time.....which I need a LOT more of!

About your 75 hour tractor sitting for 6-8 months.

For all you know, it never had it's 50 hour service and THAT is the most important service of all. 50 hours (i have read) is a very important service as it flushes out any metal shavings that they say build up in the hydraulics on any new machine. 50 hour service is supposed to be very through and ALL fluids get changed as I understand it. Demand a 50 hour service on it to close your deal.
