  • Valves on front cylinder closed
  • I see marks in the clutch housing
  • Marks in inspection away from engine will line up
  • Pump shaft is at 11 and 5 o'clock with dot at 11 o'clock
  • Dot inside pump is at 5 o'clock

According to the shaft dots is appears to be 180 degrees off. If I turn is 180 degrees the inspection window marks away from the engine won't be aligned, but the ones on the engine side will. I was under the impression I should use the inspection window away from the engine, correct?

When you pulled the injection pump off the back of the front cover did you pin time the injection pump? Is there a pin to lock the engine on TDC through the back of the front cover? TDC on number one is correct but should be able to see the pump gear have a mark on it to one of the gears on the front of the engine like the cam gear. What engine is in it?

I apologize for not being able to answer much. I am no mechanic. As far as the gears, I haven't done anything with them. How can I tell which engine it has?

Can someone verify for me that the valve closest to front of engine is exhaust and next is intake. Otherwise I have it TDC on exhaust stroke which would make it 180 degrees off.

Someone also said that is a pump for the 207 and I have a 188.

You should have both of the valves closed - that means there should be slack or movement of the rocker gear for the #1 Cylinder. I am assuming that the engine is timed using #1 cylinder as reference.
So to answer your question, both valves should be closed. The pump timing should be referenced to TDC for #1 cylinder - often set to around 18 degrees BTDC (approximately).

ad at your photo's and note the dot on the pump driveshaft tang. That dot is supposed to line up with a similar mark inside the housing of the pump. That is dot-to-dot is how the those two parts are put together. Don't just put them together without looking to see if the marks align as they are supposed to.
