J D 8440 always hard to in summer

8440 J D will start in the same day Ok when u get it going but by the next day
it is back to being real stubborn --forget about winter starts .. we put an
electric lift pump between tank and injector pump as per J D dealer suggestion
but it hasn't helped at all. The pump just will not let fuel in until turning
the engine over for 10 minutes and using starting fluid aids or bleeding injector
lines every time. Any suggestions??

Sounds as if you need to check the operation of the fuel check valve. AR73888 Check Valve ADD 44.75 USD

I think it's attached to filter base but I'll have to do some research.

It is attached to the inlet of the filter base. There is also a checkvalve/pressure regulator on the outlet of the injection pump. If either of those are faulty you will get fuel bleedback from the pump making for difficult starting. Also make sure that all you fuel lines on secure. If you have any rubber lines replace them. If they leak air then you will have bleedback too.

I'd be keeping an eye on the starter too if you normally crank it that long. I'd want ten seconds max, not ten minutes.

It is #13 in this page shot. It is called a control valve.
