I have a new to me JD 185 hydro.
I do not know the year.
I was doing a full service on it today.
I mistakenly put 10w30 instead of sae30 in the engine.
Do you think that ll be ok?
Also tried to change the trans oil.
Not much came out and not much went back in. Maby a fourth of a quart. Does this seem right?
I also used hyguard trans/hydraulic oil. Is that ok?

Is ebay the best place to get a seat? This one is pretty shot.
thanks for your help
wendal

I chated with a mechanic and he said the engine oil should be ok.
But should draing the trans and put correct oil in it.
I got a product number off the frame. I did not see the serial number. MOO185A443182
Would this number tell me the year?
I would like to figure out which trans and rearend is in it.
thanks

Not a great picture but got to start somewhere

LOL It looks like a 1987 and a Sundstrand trans.
3/4 qt of oil.
Is this a good trans?

I think you have an Eaton by the build. We used to use 10W30 which is a similar weight to Low Vis Hyguard. Your tractor isn't in the lube chart- says refer to manual....

I changed the pullies and idler and belt and drained the oil in the trans. Put oil back in and know it wont move.
No forward or reverse.

Check simple stuff first, is the drive belt on correctly? If looped in the wrong direction, it might be spinning backwards.

I took a few pictures. Hope the turn out.
One werd thing is I drove it and worked good. Now I can push it with out turn the lever to put the motor in neurtal. That lever is free and works like it did before. It's not stuck over.
