JD 2010 PTO

I have a 1961 jd 2010 (gas) this tractor was used exclusively at several nurseries. at some point in time there was a front loader added to the tractor. to get to the point here, the pto and 3 point were rarely if ever used. I am now looking to buy a new bush hog, pto driven. my question is how can I tell if the pto is still operating normally, other than just watching it rotate? are there seals that might leak? or bearings that might have failed at some point? I don"t want to invest in the bush hog, just to find out the pto no longer functions. I am new to owning a tractor. any help here would be appreciated. thanks

With engine running engage pto to see if shaft turns and no load noises are emitted. It's normal for 2010 pto to make a gear clashing noise when clutch is being engaged.

hello tx Jim thanks for the reply. yes I engaged pto and shaft turns smoothly with very little noise. seems to be ok.
