This past winter while removing snow from the driveway I noticed the rear axle locker stopped engaging. I could depress the locker pedal, but no dice as one wheel spins freely. I致e lived without it for a few months now and have decided it痴 time to tackle the repair, it痴 just simply a necessity. Yesterday I tested whether it maybe a simple user error or whether I could get it to engage at all by playing with pedal a bit more. To do this, I jacked up one of the rear wheels, started her up, gave it some gas and let the raised wheel run free. I tried to engage the axle lock with the hopes of having the tractor fall off the jack....but again no luck.

Anyone run into this or have any service docs/diagrams/pictures of the rear end that would help? I知 wondering if there痴 a sheer pin involved that I could replace, but that maybe wishful thinking.

Thanks

AW

The locker itself is a collar with 4 pins that engage. Is it making any noises? I would think that if there was an internal problem you would hear it. There are roll pins on the shaft, I would check those first and make sure the lever is doing what it's supposed to. There is a possibility that the internal fork that engages the locker is malfunctioning.

It doesn't sound good but maybe the free wheel was moving to fast? I copied this from my manual;

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Using the traction assist function improperly can damage the transaxle:

Reduce speed and allow drive wheels to rotate at same speed before engaging or disengaging traction assist.

No noise at all, only difference is that it doesn’t engage. The pedal depresses just as it normally would and even sometimes stays down as if it’s engaged, but even then one of the two wheels are able to spin independently.
