JD 310B Hoe Not starting.

Ok my dad has a JD 310 hoe its been under a roof so no water has gotten into anything.

Its hasnt been started since 02 cause it wouldnt fire then. Now im gonna try to get it going.

From what i remember in 02 it wont fire but would puff to life on a rag of diesel to the air cleaner for a min.

Im thinking Injection pump?

I got a battery on charge and im going to the gas station for 5 gal of diesel im going to put it in and pull the lines off the injector pump and bleed the lines and see if i get fuel.

What else can i do to start getting this thing going again.

Since it has been sitting for 8 years I think I would start by pulling the injectors and fogging the cylinders with a light oil. With the injectors still out try to turn the motor through a couple of revolutions to make sure it is okay.

About the fuel system an option you have while the injectors are removed is to have them all tested before reinstalling them. At least you can verify that all of them are in good shape. I would then put these injectors back in the motor. Starting with fresh fuel and filters I would bleed out all the air with the manual fuel pump from the filters. Next I would make sure I had good delivery through the fuel pump and filters by breaking open the injector pump supply line. If I had good fuel flow I would reconnect to the injector pump. Next I would turn over the engine with the starter to see if fuel was spurting out of the injector fuel lines. If it does I would then attach the fuel lines to the injectors leaving them just loose enough to bleed any air in the lines. Then while turning over the engine I would go down the row of injectors tightening all the lines. Make sure you don't over heat the starter. I would also check the return lines to make sure you have fuel returning to the tank. If no one had moved or changed the timing on the injector pump it should start up.

I would go through the above process before pulling the injector pump to send in for service. It could be the pump needs rebuilding but it could be something simple such as air in the sytem.

Hopefully some good mechanics will chime in with some better advice.

Also check air filter etc. for critter clogging and chewing.

ok so i got it all cleaned off took my new battery out of my 3910 and tried to turn it over starter just clicked.
So i took it off and seen it was engaging but not turning so i cleaned it all up and got it to work right.

Put it back on and tried to turn it over again a few clicks. but then it turned over so i let it turn over for a few turns prob 3-4 turn and quit.

So i dumped fuel in it and figered id start to figure out where my fuel issue was.

Well i went to turn it back over and nothing just clicks removed starter and its fine works like its supposed to.

put it in and same thing so i took it off like 5 more times and finally i gave up and tried turning the flywheel. and i coulnt budge it all.

I wouldnt think the motor is locked up since i had it turned over a few times.

could it be hdryo locked? i tried pussing a lever while tried and nothing?

How do i go about this now?

Can i put it in like a low 4 and try pulling it a few feet to try to get the motor to turn a bit??

Im clueless on this so i really dont know where to begin and feel like im back at the first stage

A couple of things here. Just because the starter works of the machine, doesn't mean it will turn the machine over. Diesels have very high starting torque. I have seen starters that work fine on a bench, yet won't start the tractor.
Also what is clicking?
Is the starter engaging?
Does this need 2 batteries to get the amps needed to start or is the battery you are using too small?
Did you clean all of your connections including the ground attachment to the frame?
How did you try to turn the flyweel?

What trans does this machine have? If it is a power shift or torque converter set up I don't think towing is an option.

I would have started as Steve posted with pulling the injectors and a little oil and see if it turns over.

Well the starter is good. i had a guy down the road look at at and went through it and said it was fine and nothing was wrong with it.

Im using a bigger battery than what is needed for it.

When i had the starter off i tried turning the flywheel with a bar.

Yes the starter is engaging but not turning it over.

All connections were cleaned

Its a 8spd 4x2

All injectors were pulled and sprayed oil in the cylinders to sit overnight. last night.

Are the injectors still out while trying to turn over the motor? Also I agree with checking the battery leads for corrosion, sometimes the corrosion can't be seen because of crimped terminal ends, the corrosion is encapsulated in the terminals. I have a 600A current clamp that will atleast indicate to a degree whether their is a problem with the leads but suspect most people don't have one, might check with a buddy of yours. You can also feel the terminals for indications of heat, this sometimes is a good indicator of a problem connection.

With the injectors removed if it will turn over I would spray oil in the cylinders while alternately turning it over a few times. Remember it would have to turn over quite a few times to start pumping oil up to the rings and journals and better to do this while their is no strain on the moving parts.

Hopefully this will work out and get you back to perform the stuff in my first post.
