Jd 3320 and caroni tm1900 73" flail review

Plenty of power, no bogging in wet 3-4 ft hay/grass. I was concerned from a pto hp vs width of cutter but no issues. I also added the caroni shift kit. The kit is great but don't expect directions on how to mount, where to drill the 8 or so holes.

Only hiccup thus far is a broken hydraulic fitting when shifting the mower and it hitting the pto sleeve.

Been thinking on a flail mower for some time.....and have heard lots of good about Caroni. You have the same tractor I do.....and its good to know you have enough power for the mower. What is a "shift kit"??

Sideshift kit, lets you slide the mower sideways in relation to the tractor to mow under stuff.

Yep. No issues.
This mower is offset so one end hangs to side more than other. Good for getting close to things. At times it is nice to be able to slide mower side-side, hence the kit. It does add 800 or so to price and u install. Drill 8 holes and secure.

I read the many pages on this mower a few years ago and wondered if my 3320 had enough power. Good to hear it does. Have you used it on any small brush? Wondered if you could. How far will it shift, or is it already shifted in your picture? It would be nice to get the mower closer to the fence and keep me away from the briars. Also read about the oil issues when people started using these, Has that been fixed or have you not encountered any problems? Sorry for so many questions, Also nice old Ford in the pic. JC

I noted some oil burped out on last use, not on first use. I underfilled it a bit to avoid. No real issue. I mowed a bunch of sapplings and never felt it. Small stuff tho, 1" or thereabouts. In the pic it is shifted all the way to left of tractor making up for the normal offset of this mower basically centering the mower. From here I could shift it right the width of the stainless rod u see in pic, I can't remember but maybe 20"

So....without the shift kit.....will the mower cover your wheel tracks? I'd rather the mower was centered on the tractor for my purposes.....and would rather not pay for a kit to shift it to center (or thereabouts). I dont have allot of fences or buildings to work around.....so the center position would be the best for my needs - mostly mowing clover food plots and grassy areas.

Also.....do folks have trouble with these mowers "wrapping" when cutting things like oats or rye?

I have my wheels set out as wide as possible. Without shift, as the deck is offset, it is close but not quite
