Has anyone repaired the steering valve on their tractor? or replaced it with a non JD part? My valve is leaking out the top where the shaft comes out of the valve? It's leaking pouring out pretty quickly? Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions??? It's not a good time to be without a tractor.

The JD Valve is $760.

Thanks,Michael

I had the same thing happen to mine. I removed it and replaced the seals. The dealer says it is not serviceable but for $760 I gave it a try .. comes apart pretty easily. Careful taking it apart to make sure you know how the over pressure check valve and spring with ball get replaced. I got seals and advice from a shop that rebuilt these type of things. The hardest part is getting the valve out of your tractor .. not much room .

Hope this helps

I have the same problem on a compact 4520. I have yet to decide to either have JD repair it or give the replacing the seals route a try. What mind of shop would I take the valve to to repair? Where do I get the seals at? Who is the manufacturer of the valve?

Thanks
Kurt

Hi Kurt,

In your 4520 I believe it is Danfoss steering unit ospm 100 ON 150L0067 ... The place that helped me out actually did a lot of brake caliper repair, hydraulic repair. It was no problem for them to order seals. They were cheap to buy like under $30 if I remember correctly. Keep in mind that there is a relieve valve on the top of this unit that could be not seating properly and because it is so close to the shaft that comes out from the top it could look like it is the seal and may not be that at all. I know my JD dealer well and it was actually the service manager there that suggested I go see the hydraulic shop rather than pony up the big bucks for a new one. Also Kurt keep your eye on ebay ... I saw a brand new one for your tractor sell this week for $111.50 ..

By the way .. the seal type if pretty standard ... they just mic'ed the dimensions and made it tighter by another .001 of an inch to ensure a good seal ... the seal came in the next day ... so don't worry about having to order it from Danfoss.

Good luck with it and if you need any suggestions let me know

David

David I sincerely appreciate the advice and will let you know what I find. I am not sure when I will tear into it as it seems that I have to take a lot apart.

Thanks Again,
Kurt
