Great forum, I wish I had discovered it much sooner.

I just ordered a JD 3720 with air ride seat, larger R4 tires and 72" 7-Iron MMM. The dealer gave me a 12.5% discount off MSRP and refused to budge any further. He did agree to sell me the deluxe grill brush guard at his cost (supposedly $300).

I'm in northwestern Pennsylvania and there isn't much in the way of competition nearby. How did I do?

I guess it doesn't much matter at this point but I think I saw a post here indicating 15- 16% off MSRP is the norm. Now I understand JD has changed their MSRP policy so maybe 12.5% off MSRP is more typical....? Help!!!

Thanks for your input!

15% is nice but it matters more to have decent service after the sale. If you get a low ball price and don't get any back-up the 2.5% really isn't a worthwhile issue. Getting good follow-up service is well worth the 2.5%. Just my opinion.

I agree with the last poster -- service is worth a lot. That given, I purchased a new JD 3720 cab tractor last month with 7 Iron 72" MMM and 59" snow blower and got a little better than 14% off MSRP shown on the JD website. Time will tell how good the service is. I shopped around at other JD dealers and discounts ranged from 10% to little over 14% so I think you are in the ball park. Good luck with your 3720 -- like mine thus far.

Best deal I could get from the local JD dealer (I also live in central Pa) was 7% off MSRP so I think 12.5 is pretty darn good.

Rod,
I live in NW Penna. near Tionesta and have been looking at that exact model. My best price so far has been right at 11% without pushing. You are probably pretty good for our area.

The attachments are quoted around 14% off.

I wish I could just go ahead and order one, now!

BTW, this site will help you immensely.

I think you did good.

As far as paying more to get good service, I disagree with this assertion. Whatever price you end up getting, both parties have to agree. There should be no decrease in quality of service. Additionally, the dealers NEED your warranty work, this is a large portion of their revenue. Ask around at various dealers, they will solicit your repair work. I worked the dealers as hard as I could in order to get the best price. My funds are limited and while I want the good dealers to make a living and stay in business, I wont let them rape me on price. Deal with multiple dealers and take the price unless you get a terrible feeling from a certain dealer. That is my 2 cents.
