Im am new here and looking for some help.

I have a 4 year old JD 5303 with a 522 FEL and just purchased a slightly used Model 48 backhoe. It came off of a 5E series tractor so should be the right match, and I have both the subframe mounting brackets and some hydraulic lines that were removed from the 5E.

My question is: Are the hydraulic lines the same as when mounting this hoe on a 5005 series ? I can find the operators manual on line with the install directions for the 48 BH on a 5005, but can find no information for the 5003 or 5E. I even called JD for a manual without success.

Does anyone have a 48 BH mounted on a 5003 or 5E ? Do you have a manual ? What is the order number of the manual ? Could you provide a picture of the back of the tractor with the BH removed showing how the lines with the quick disconnects are mounted ?

Thanks very much.

I think you can get to the manuals by going through JDParts.com. I ordered the Tech Manual for my JD 4600 that way.

I have a 48 backhoe on my 4600 tractor. I'm not familiar with the specifics of the 5303.

The backhoe connects to John Deere's "Power Beyond" plumbing, which is a little different than remote outlets that are controlled by a valve. Power Beyond is a loop, which is closed by connecting the inlet and outlet together when no backhoe (or other attachment) is on the tractor. If your tractor has Power Beyond, you should see such a loop. The male and female ends of the connectors are arranged so you can't get it wrong, if you're connecting into that loop.

If your tractor doesn't have Power Beyond (or equivalent aftermarket plumbing), you will need to add it, in order to properly connect the backhoe.

The hydraulic lines that "came off the 5E" are probably the Power Beyond setup for that tractor. I have no idea if they will fit yours.

Through JDParts, you should be able to get the installation manual for the Power Beyond kit for your tractor. You may be able to tell from looking at that whether the parts you have are right for yours. I also recommend that you order the Technical Manual for your tractor. You'll find it useful anyway. You can get it on CD for $65 or a paper copy for $130.

Dennis,

Thanks for the advice. I checked out JDparts.com and still can't find the right manual. It is probably time to visit my JD Dealer and see what information they can find.
